How far away is this?
When we get different language speakers integrating I imagine that Cantr will be better than ever. Like in real society two cultures never dissolve so I imagine we will se great tension between the different language speakers. And therefore lots more wars. And we might see continents uniting together for a time.

I really want to see that CANTR will have culture trading between, different language continents... It will bring more fun and diplomacy... and creativity of course.. (I see that some veteran players get a little bored because of the same rutin
) I am not at that stage yet
as i am a newbie ...
By the way, i also am try to create a new language group (in Turkish) and now see the dificluties. Because most of the people want to play World of warcraft or do not want to spend so much time to a text based game.. Also an other difficulty is, as it is a text based game, people can not "emote" also i mean... what will happen when a turkish guy faces with a french guy.. in real world if both now english they will speak... Or if they do not know how to communicate they start emoting.. but in CANTR worl emotes are also in texts... So how will those two will comunicate.. They will only be able to hit each other...
There is also another problem, which is the lack of interest in other languages.. with 100-200 charecters newborn continents only try to fight with animals... So it will be a little dissatisfying for english community to face with others... because they are a little weak...
Anyway, it will happen someday but not so close i guess...

Brings up an interesting point: Are players in non-English areas allowed to emote in English as a way of bridging the gap? Just as a large number of people who don't speak each others' languages can communicate via a third (english, or french, or esparento etc), most cantr players have at least a little knowledge of English. It's my opinion that when two language groups meet they should probably be allowed to emote in English. (at least until pointing to everything is implemented)
To say that even emotes have to be in the native language is analogous to putting the two people on opposite sides of a brick wall...if they can't even use non-verbal cues, how are they to communicate at all?

I'm not dead; I'm dormant.

??? What is that based on? Of course cultures dissolve/disappear/are overwhelmed, etc ... What are you talking about?!
And more to the topic: yes, using English to describe OOC stuff is allowed, but it would be nice if it weren't necessary. I mean, it will still assume players can read/write English even when the site is completely translated and people play completely in a non-English area. That shouldn't be the case, really ...

Like the Plains Indians. Totally overwhelmed by the changes brought by Europe, they all but disappeared.
If I understand what he said correctly...

Yeh thats what I meant. You cant have two cultures living together. My example? How about the asian communities in britain, all live in the same areas together in places like Birmingham Bradford. Theres no place in the world were cultures are integrated in the same community. Hence placces like litle italy in New York and so on.

It's not impossible at all
come by my end of London. I walk down my high street, I'll hear more foreign langauges spoken than I'll hear english, and I'll see shops from Africa, the Carribbean, India, Pakistan, Eastern Europe and Russia, Turkey, Greece, Sri Lanka etc. etc.
The coucnil estate I used to live on had people from all over the place, not segregated either by space or by culture.
These people and their cultures aren't sperated - they intermingle all the time. It's not like 'cos I is English I only speak to English people.
As for English culture - what is it if it isn't, constantly changing, adopting dirrerent bits of different cultures all the time.
Take music - Hip Hop is huge in the UK - it's not exactly 'english' - but an adoption of other cultures.
It's not difficult - far from it - in any place where people from different communities meet, their cultures meet, and intermingle. It's natural and is constantly changin
(On another, off topic note: I don't like people who argue about 'protecting culture' whether it be english or whatever - culture by its nature shifts and changes)
Although, clearly, in some cases, 'clashes' of culture cause problems - but I'd argue that culture, in those instances, is not the only, maybe not even the largest, force to cuase the confrontations. Other factors, economic, social and spatial, have to be considered.
EDIT:Sorry if I'm going on a bit - but this topic kinda hits on something I've done a lot of writing about...

Haha, Canadian here.
Although Toronto, the Multicultural Hub of the WORLD (Thank you, thank you) is a city of over... what... 40 different cultures jam-packed into a metrpolis, you still have to realise that OUR CANADIAN culture still overlaps those of any other.
So, in essence, it's many cultures, but with a quick glance, it's really only one. Canadian culture is a unique blend of many cultures
So, we've merely "merged" cultures rather than "overlapped".
