Why the hell would a Canadian watch American news? If something important happens in America, the Canadian news will cover it.
I feel it makes more sense to watch find out about things happening where you actually live (at least in the same godamn country!) rather than a driveby in Detroit.
And who's bashing your country? I'm bashing your crappy ass news. Are you suggesting that your entire nation is summed up by your cable news stations? I'd say your doing the bashing, my friend.

You actually feel your nation is embodied in your news stations? I always thought your country was about freedom and liberty for all. But I suppose, being a Canadian, I know nothing about America.
Well, I'm glad I know that your country is primarily about cable news. Know I know.

I did not blow it out of proportion. You did that, I'm afraid.
Just because it's American doesn't mean you have to defend it.
I mean, do you watch the Canadian news? Of course not. If something in Canada happens that is important enough, your news will report it.
But do you really care about a stabbing in Toronto? Do you? It simply wouldn't make sense.

I don't watch LOCAL american news. CNN is probably my favorite.
Why don't I watch Canadian news? Because all of the shows are boring.
Canadian news HAS to broadcast a certain percentage of news from Canada.
And you know what? Frankly, not a lot of interesting things happen here.
I don't want to watch a half an hour piece on how a town has to boil their drinking water. I don't care.

I find it weird that you always make an effort to go out of your way to prove your superiority over america Schme. I know English isn't your first language, so that means one of two things to me. You're from the predominately French speaking realm of Canada, which brings to mind Quebec who is fighting for independence, or from a country somewhere overseas where people weren't happy how they were treated by their government so everyone makes up for their anger by bashing Old Glory. What have WE, the american players of the free online game Cantr, done personally to anger YOU, in a way that you feel is necessary to constantly remind us how much the country I wake up in everyday, the country that I particularly love, and the country that I even like, sucks?
I know I've personally bashed you, I just don't care for online arguments you start, and I don't like you because of it, there is nothing more to it. But no one here attacked you first. What did AoM do to you? Specifically, what did Nitefyre do? Serenity, Wichita? I assume we all did something to bother you because if it were individual it would be in a PM.
And finally, I question your morales. I know you are not a person of Christian belief[EDIT: not saying its a bad thing!], but you have posted long fables from varying religions. Now are you doing so to teach others your belief, or are you posting it for attention? All religions show of respecting others, and this is clearly not what you display by spitting on everything that exists in my country. So what makes you immune to caring about respect?
This forum was created for a free online game by Jos. I like tha game, and this forum is helpful, but I don't see how your post had any positive effect on either this game or the continuating progress of it.
Sorry for making a long post, it sounds like a rant, and it might be, but I just want to hear Schme's even longer response to answer what we did to him and to rebuddle against every last word I said because I obviously don't know what I am talking about. If anyone wants to play Cantr, I'll probably be in there, doing something productive.

Anyway, weren't we actually discussing Canadian politics? Well, im my opinion they were right. Definintely right.
Yes, this is an attempt to get the whining to stop. It's useless. No, I don't know crap about Canadian politics. Should I?

Just a minor point: I wish American news would cover something other than how a town boils their water. While important stupidity is going on in our government, last night's news teaser was about-- oh, yes-- dogs biting mailmen!
Did I mention that I live in the Bay Area, where far more important and newsworthy things happen EVERY DAY!?!?!?!?
I have no problems bashing the American news. The state of journalism in this country would make even William Randolph Hearst blush with shame.

You're talking about local news though. If people watch local news they are going to want see local news not national or international news. Plus the more local something is the more interest people have in it thus more viewership which means better ratings which means more sponsers which means more money. Whether we like it or not news is a business. We could always take the route of other countries and rather than having corporate owned news agency we could have a government controlled news agency but that would mean more taxes and American already believe they are being taxed enough which I agree with. A lot of people from other countries don't realize that Americans are taxed not once or twice but three times (sometimes more) by three different governments (local, state, and Federal, and sometimes a fourth being school district). And they wonder why we are opposed to an international income tax from the UN.
I don't think journalism today is anywhere close to the yellow journalism and the ethics of the like of Hearst of the early 19th century.

Actually, I'm talking about the 10 o'clock news, which is mostly national coverage with a few local stories tucked in the back, and on which last night's big teaser was "dogs bite mailmen."
I do not live in an area where we need to reach for interesting and actually newsworthy stories. I live in an area where, every day, the mass of humanity does things-- both good and bad-- that are more interesting and newsworthy than their dogs. And yet.... dogs seem to capture the news more often than anything else except for "high profile" court cases (there was nothing about Scott Peterson that deserved to be high profile, yet the media crammed it down our throats for over a year).
Plus the more local something is the more interest people have in it thus more viewership which means better ratings which means more sponsers which means more money. Whether we like it or not news is a business.
And therein lies the problem. News is a business. Reporting, however, used to be a profession. Instead, it's stooped to pandering and permissiveness.

I disagree. Clearly, you haven't been paying attention to what's been going on in journalism recently. I almost expect that our government will lie to us daily, but I get very discouraged when the news (especially a certain "fair and balanced" channel) routinely allows them to get away with it and even spreads the lies further and further to get people to accept them as fact.
Hearst helped start a war and changed public opinion on an otherwise-useful fiber to promote his business interests. I don't think it's going too far to say that Fox News has been a co-conspirator in promoting the lies of the Bush Administration, lies which led us to invade another country and kill thousands of Iraqis as well as American soldiers. Corruption in our government is disgusting but expected. But the mass corruption in our media, the industry charged with the responsibility of exposing corruption, is downright revolting.

American news is not a paragon of our society. But I'm fairly certain that schme wasn't attacking it merely because of its faults. If he was, he should have listed examples. Instead, I believe schme attacked it because it had the adjective "American" in front of it. His ad hominem attacks against my country are getting tiring and I'm asking him to stop; arretez-vous.
That he has the audacity to put words in my mouth afterwards suggesting that I think my society sucks because of our news or something, (to tell you the truth, the amazing fallacies coursing through schme's logic prevented me from reading past the first few sentences of his retort) just further proves to me that he is so caught up in his america-hating rhetoric that he doesn't even realize when he's gone too far; when he has crossed the line between witty social commentary, and gone clear through to muck-slinging.
Schme. Stop attacking my country. And if you still feel the need to do so, make sure to not use logical fallacies in your arguement. If you don't know what a logical fallacy is, I'm sure you can google it.
