You really misunderstood me there - i am well aware that 'race' or ethnicity has no bearing on physical attributes - essentialism and natural determinism are deeply flawed, and entirely wrong, and something I disagree with entirely

What I was trying to say, is that Cantrian differences between areas do not have to be physical/visible. In the case of area differentiation, that's starting by the inheritence of the skills of where you spawn. This in RL has nothing to do with race, skin colour etc.

But if makes no sense that one would inherit skills from just by being born somewhere, and someone else could just aswell learn those skills.

And besides, that's something completly different from what I was thinking.

How can one be a biggot based on skills in a utilitarian world such as Cantr?

"That dirty blacksmith. The world would be a better place without those damned blacksmiths. We should run them out of town."

Seems rather silly to me.

I suppose I have nothing more to contribute, as Doodle_Jack is stating my opinion on this subject to a T.

But that's how it currently works in Cantr skills were randomly distributed, but now depend on the skills of the characters where a newspawn appears.

Really? Sounds foolish to me.

I hadn't known.

All the same, how are we going to have racial descrimination in a raceless world? Huh? It can't be done! It's people like you who ruin it for everyone!

But in all seriousness, the skill thing was not what I had in mind.

No racism in Cantr? Do you have a bad memory or something?

It's not very apparent, if so.

I've met one guy who hates the Dutch, and one guy who hates the english, (but he's crazy and has never even seen an Englishmen) and that is cool, with the ethnocentrism and all, but the Dutch aren't exactly a race.

Language is as close to race as one gets in Cantr, but it's not actually a race, really.

But your perhaps right. Once the world gets smaller, there will be ample chance for bigotry.

But I simply can't wait that long! I'm an impatient spoiled overfed north american. I want it all now!

Are you kidding me? The different languages are so completely different from the English area that I think they could be called a different race. You have french characters. Think about how different life is for them.

Name an English town where you get given a longsword and shield just for being born and not dying? :?

That's called a culture, not a race. Besides are the language areas seperated by large bodies of water (as far as I know) which causes that communication between the several areas is very little. It makes an inter-racial or inter-cultural war almost impossible.

If there will be races implemented some day, I would like races to meet each other regularily. Let's see what happens.

And... cultures are often discriminated against as well.

Why not just leave the whole race/culture thing alone..and let it progess as it is? That seems more logical to me, and safe.

Preciseley (feel free to correct, I'm kinda well... tipsy...) I argue the same. Let Cantrian society evelove within its own boundaries, not by importing RL situations...

Exactly, they don't interact.
Therefore the genetic progression of the French is not affected whatsoever by the English.
I'd call them different races. Remember that race is not just skin color.

No race is whatever the bigot using it as a meaningful term decides what they want it to be. Usually a construction of domination and predjudice...
