More polite ways of introduction
Instead of the "point" option, could we have the word replaced with "gesture"? it is a lot more ambiguous, and could leave room for RP.
Example "You say: This is the man who stole my stone! *gestures to him angrily*
You gesture at a man in his twenties."
just adds more room for RP, and is a bit more polite than just pointing.

I like it, and not because it's more polite, but because it allows more interpretation... for example, you can gesture at a man in a way that is friendly, or you can gesture with a particular finger in a way that is not friendly.... Your words and RP will determine which way your meaning should be taken.

Neccacary or not, it adds a degree of civility to the game... my characters usually take offence at being pointed at, as they consider it rude, but to be gestured at is much nicer and seems a lot more refined in practice.

Why should they consider it rude? There's no reason for them to feel that way in the game, espicially seeing as that is the only way to point someone out.
And as for the middle finger, there's also no reason in the game why someone would consider it rude.

Dear God! I agree with schme!
I usually interpret the point as an appropriate gesture and not strictly as striking an Uncle Sam pose. It can be the rude pointing if you point and the say, "Hey! Who are you?". It can also be a quick and polite wave if you point and then say something like, "Good day. How are you today, sir?"
Either way I think it would be alright, but we're staring to have a lot of buttons to keep track of, so adding a new one seems undesireable. Also, renaming the old one to gesture just seems to be more of a politically correct gesture than a necessarry modification to me.
