Race and hair.
I was thinking that perhaps it would be a good idea to implement some sort of race system. I was thinking that, like real race, one would not be able to control it. Perhaps it could be on the description thing like "He/She is blue/green/whatever the hell other coulor, ect."
And I suppose the race would depend on where you were spawned or something.
It was just a thought, as I was thinking if we had that, it would open up the doors for a whole new level of bigotry, which might be interesting.
Anyhow, just a thought.
And I suppose hair would just be the exact same thing.

Why not.
But wouldn't it be better to be a mix of the races at the spawn location then instead of a set race determined by the spawn location?
And this could be combined with the current skill set if i'm not mistaken.

It would allow tracking of how people move around. For example, how many leaders are situated where they are born or do they tend to move around (whereas people who stay in one place are more likely to assume mundane roles for a while and then drop dead).
It would be interesting, although I suspect most of Cantr would be pretty kalaidoscopic, with a diverse range of colours in each place.

Well the problem is that there is no inheritance in Cantr.
Say the red people take over the village of the green people and slaughter all the green people. What would the colour of a newspawn be?
On the other hand, you could let the number of each skin colour present in a village decide what the chance is for the newspawn to have that colour.
Anyway, skin colour could really cause some good old-fashioned discrimination, hate and even genocide attempts in Cantr.

Why skin/hair colour?
Like the Gen Disc topic (which I can't be bothered to look up and linky) - there are kinda gonna be 'races' in Cantr once the skill system matures - with newspawns inheriting the skills of the area they spawn in...
So, in that case, 'race' could be in terms of the skills a Cantrian has (although essentialist linking of 'race'/ethnicity and skill/traits in RL is the cause of much harm)
Also, persoanlly, I think that if any built-in description of a character is introduced, it should be player-decided.

Ah yes, but 'race' should also be a visible thing besides the skills. That makes discrimination and stuff possible.
Besides, people might start thinking things like: "Look! He's purple! He must be a good fighter!!!" That's the same when people think IRL that black people are good musicians or good runners.

The problem is, if someone spawns somewhere where they don't like the 'colour' of their character, or race or whatever, they'll let them die. If someone wants a good fighter, they'll keep spawning someone until they get a purple character - which is why I think any descriptions should be player decided - only to avoid this.
In a perfect world, with perfect players, this'd be a good idea though...

There are already players having their charries respawn time after time to end up in a location they want.
And also IRL you can't have everything the way you want it to be. I would like to be a handsome, blond, muscular guy with blue eyes and a big ..., but hey, I'm not! And no way I can change it by one click.
EDIT: Well, actually I am quite handsome.

Exactly.
Light blue supremacy all the way!
I'm afraid race and birthplace have nothing to do with skill. It is in fact widely accepted now.
That is a people, not a race. And a people can change. If I take a Turag baby to my house, and he starts living there, I'm sure he's going to learn differently from his parents, different skills. Skills are aquired through experience.
And so, I vehemently disagree. That's not what I had in mind at all.

You may not remember, but I'm pretty sure you didn't choose your race at birth. People are born the way they are, and they deal with it, weather they like it or not.
I couldn't have put it better myself.
When I was a kid, I often wished I was an arab, a desi or an african like all my friends, and I wished I had different hair. But guess what? It wasn't going to happen, it isn't going to happen. What can you do about it? Not a damn thing. I've known people who wished they were white so that they could have an easier life, and avoid racism. But what can you do short of pull a Michael Jackson? Nothing.
That's the way the world works.
