Yup, I use to be a tv buff and I've never heard of it though. But then again, I don't like watching sci-fi shows like that. Makes me feel like a star trek fan.

I did watch the X files as a kid though. I don't know if you'd consider that sci-fi or not. i just consider it a great story.

Huh, did someone mention Farscape? Yeah I watched it for a while but it comes on a channel we don't have so I only saw it at my previous bf. And since I'm not with him anymore we don't spend so much time together. I used to watch almost any scifi series I ran into, maybe because my mom told me not to. :P But for some reason I've never watched Firefly or Stargate. Almost everything else. Star Treks, Star Wars, Babylon 5, Earth 2, Farscape, Earth: Final Conflict, the X-files, the Lone Gunman... and I remember on fifth grade there was this western series... and there was this blue alien blob that had some special powers... and the main character I think turned bulletproof in the end for being influenced by this object. Edit, oh cool I found this listing with description of series, it was The Brisco County, Jr.

So... you still wondering why I'm such a freak?

And what's this series where a boy fell from a treehouse and ended up in coma and he was moving in a dreamworld I don't know what for... but his physical body was in the hospital first and then his mother should put him in a private hospital but they didn't have funding for that. And he could still play chess while unconscious and once he moved the tower and in the world they were going towards this tower... And some mean big boys in one episode put him in a shopping cart and at least tried to drop him in a swimming pool. Pretty traumatic...

Oh, now I found it finally. The Odyssey. But seems like the things I remember are from the two first episodes. So probably my mom forbade me from watching it any longer, because it was making me scared.

Upon reading the list I found loads of other series I have watched but I think I only got halfway before being exhausted. Anyway here's some additions to the list.

Amazing Stories - Now that was a lovely series, I remember they always ended up in a good way even if the beginning might have been scary. Though one episode two kids turned magnetic by a meteor strike, one a nerd and the other one a popular guy, and it ended up so that they were drawn together. And I'm pretty sure it was embarrassing for both of them.

Angel - For about one season, again the problem of being aired on the channel I only see at my ex bf's place.

Bliss - A lovely miniseries, unfortunately I think I missed the beginning.

Buffy - Used to be cool in the beginning but it just went on and on... I started watching when Spike and Drucilla were there, just loved them.

Dark Angel - I just love it! Man, did it really end? Noooo, please tell me there will be more episodes!!

Doctor Who - I used to watch it when I was a kid, I think too young to read the subtitles so I only remember the police box that was the time gate. But when I was in London I happened to watch half an episode and was amazed to notice The Doctor looks so young... But according to this site there has been several actors

The odyssey... is that where the kid fell out of a treehouse and went into a coma? Sort of an alice in wonderland approach?

If thats the one, I watched that too, till he woke up, then had the magic ability to go back whenever he pleased.

its no fun when you can go back when ever you want.

Yeah that's what I meant. Ok now I got one to add to the list, "Halfway Across the Galaxy and Turn Left". It was a comedy but because I only saw the penultimate episode, missing the last one, I thought that it ended in X sacrificing herself by dying in the lava along with the bad guy. This thing has haunted me for years. Only a moment ago I checked the synopsis and found out what really happened.

Incarnations, Seko.... several differenet incarnations...

Plus Dr. Who only returned to our screens last month, after a 12 year absence. I watched a few of the new episodes, which I loved, before having to return to uni and a noticeable lack of tv.

I love Dr. Who... always have, always will.

I also subscrive to the view that McGann was not a true incarnation of the doctor, and that Ecclestone is the eighth doctor, not the ninth.

All listed so far are great - me and my partner are currently working our way through a collection of X-File DVDs (my partner got all the box sets for every series! )

Quantum leap anyone? That was brilliant - but I was young when I watched the last ever episode - couldn't understand it at all...

Dr. Who I love to - my mate's a freak about it and has the whole lot on video - used to watch them all the time as a kid

Does Neon Genesis Evangelion count as sci-fi?

To answer your questions about the reason why you guys never heard about this is because FOX never advertised the series when it was on and the only reason why it has survived is because of fan word of mouth.

Remember, no one heard about Star Wars when it first came out. People saw it, fell in love with it and told others to see it and this began the Star Wars legacy. The same thing is happening with regards to Firefly/Serenity.

I can tell you now, you'll begin hearing about it (if you haven't already) soon. Probably around mid to late summer up until its release. And you'll definitely hear about after it is released. You can't stop the signal and you can't keep Browncoats from flyin'.

:) Well with fanatical...erm, dedicated browncoats like yourself working the crowds, I'm sure it will become great.

For those of you who are not fans of the typical sci-fi. This series has a different feel to it than most. The difference is that Firefly isn't as focused on etching out its universe, and really just jumps into the character development.

In my opinion, it's cowboys in space. And it makes for a good combination.

Random geek fact: That description has already been claimed by Gene Roddenberry as his original plan for Star Trek

Random geek fact (correction): It was 'Wagon Train in space' at least that's how he pitched it to the TV exec's apparently.

Same difference I suppose.

Yeah, but Roddenberty only pitched it like that because at the time Westerns were big on TV and unless he pitched it as a western than no TV exec was going to listen to him.

Anyways, Firefly/Serenity is the true cowboys in space. It is really the first time (since perhaps Cowboy Beebop or Outlaw Star if you count anime) that Sci-Fi and Western have been blended together. Plus Firefly/Serenity have about every other genre in it. There is horror (Reavers), X-Files (Hands of Blue and River), ER (Simon), Romance, war (Beginning of Serenity and the Message), Comedy (some of the best one-liners ever!!!!!), and Thrillers (a lot of near to barely close escapes.
