Life's too easy

Postby creepyguyinblack » Sun May 15, 2005 10:12 pm

Not related to anything in specific, but overall I think cantr has been becoming rather easy, simple, peaceful. All the powers on the big continents have settled their disagreements and limited production goes on. I think we need something to shake it up, (once all the bugs are fixed of course) like resource shortages or a natural disaster, famine, plague, something interesting beyond the standard iron to steel production line empire. This is of course speaking not as a staff member but as a player. I'm just curious as to other player's thoughts on this.

I totally agree. Cantr is an ongoing story and, in order to be interesting, a story needs some kind of conflict or obstacle to deal with or to overcome. In rl we all get plenty of challenges but, in Cantr, not so much anymore...except for the isolated pirate attacks.

To entertain themselves I see lots of cutesy-pie relationships springing up everywhere which are so cloying I could scream. I feel like I'm living in a thirteen-year-old girl's fantasy love diary. Help me please! I never thought I would pray for the emergence of evil empires but, anything to disrupt the endless stream of teasing, flirting, secret sex, engagements, weddings and now, adopting newspawns to form family units. It's not that I hate these things, per se, but, for my chars, that is all that is happening anywhere as far as rp goes. And I understand why - because nothing else is happeining.

I'm no good at world domination myself so I have to leave it up to the better chess players.

P.S. Peanut, I haven't understood any of your last ten or so posts. Are you drunk?

No - he's just spending too much time on the IRC with Rev - his brains are getting slowly sauted

Yo_Yo suggested this somewhere else recently - and I know I've heard it before. I think changes and events in Cantr should be driven by players and their characters - not by programmers (bar the odd new feature implementation) - but, maybe with Jos' plans for a weather system, this might be included in Cantr 2.0?
Whoever you vote for.

I think it depends a great deal on where you are. Certainly life is easy in some areas...... and I know exactly the area you are referring to, Kinvoya.

However, on other islands........hunger, exhaustion, marauders, and sneezing sickness have all but wiped out what were once prosperous and productive communities. Sjoftich, and many other towns on that particular island an example. Many of these communities are now leaderless and struggling to pull something together. Some are virtual ghost towns. Dump another natural disaster or similar on top of it and there won't be much more left.

:(

I had a char who tried to start a new town once, but it failed due to, among other things, food shortages, personel shortages, animal attacks, the sneezing disese, exaustion, hasty idiots and , finally, a couple of perverted lunitics with spears.

As I said, I see these kind of events happening throughout the areas of Cantr where I have chars, except in the few places where people are really struggling to survive. It seems that easy living brings about the relationship extravapalooza.

I'm just so bad at getting anyone to help any of my characters at anything that any evil plans aren't going anywhere.

I want to see life made harder by characters, not coders (well, mostly not coders). When will the bandits get it together and pilliage somewhere developed? Anyone with a trace of leadership ability (which I apparantly don't have, because I can't seem to bestow any on my characters) and some patience should be able to destroy DHN, for instance...and that would be both profitable and shocking. A good war on the K-island could happen, maybe.

The problem is that the 'good guys' won almost all the wars, and now there aren't many agents of evil (in any form) left. That means there aren't many places for chaos to come from.

Hahah, that's a good one. Seriously, what group of bandits would be stupid enough to go up against a half dozen Rangers ?

We all know how Draco ended up...and that was with 1/6th of the Ranger presence.

Drojf's a much easier target...especially with Frathar at the helm. It's a clinch as long as Jasper (and Eliza) are out of town. Or Krif.

DHN has 6 resident rangers? I didn't think there were much more than that many in the entire region?

Sneezing...... I jsut ran across that about 5 days ago for the first time.. saw a couple sneeze and didnt know what was going on.. I asked ic but got no response.. so I thought it was just some locals doing something I didnt know how to do for fun... so is it a real sickness IC is it contagious and does it kill... *smiles8 Maybe my character will carry it over to another island he is trying to travel too
