As opposed to the correct American spelling, Nick? One of Noah Webster's lasting legacies...the more sensible color, armor, theater, favor, etc.

Although colour, armour, and especially "theatre" are well-beloved of pretentious Americans everywhere.

I wouldn't call them pretentious, simply "correct" or perhaps "literate" :P

American is a subdialect of English, so it follows that Standard English is the "correct" way, which means Colour, not Color etc.

ok - s having left my computer this evening to do a 'yum update' - Firefox now has a reloaded Cantr - with the bold white - and I do like it. Knew I would... It's better than having both the places and characters orange, but not as nice as when just the characters were orange...

Well, both the characters and the places are bold white so...

And English is a sub-language of a Celtic Language, but you don't see any Celt people rubbing it in your face. Plus we American's can say words however we feel like and if you don't like it we'll probably just bomb you.

There's a difference between language and dialect.

Celtic and English are differenct languages, they have a different grammar and vocabulary.

Whereas dialects use similar grammar and vocabulary, but it's not distinct from the language, it's a variation, not a different language

ahh...

English pretty much began with Germanic invasions in 449 when the Angles, Jutes, Saxons and Frisians invaded England. Britons spoke Celtic dialects through the times of Romanization and Latin as an official language. The invaders supposedly spoke dialects of English and borrowed very few words of importance from any of the Celtic dialects.

English as it is known today has borrowed many words from many languages, which is why it has survived. It as most languages, follows the path of least resistance and simplifies as it grows older, though this process has been slowed by writing it all down and having "rules" and such.

By dropping the extra letters in words such as colour doesn't make it incorrect, it just follows the path that languages are wont to follow. And makes sense ;) though I do prefer to use the extra letters meself.

English is just one big mosaic language that likes to include every language in it somehow. (and likes to get rid of all the inflections; nasty little buggers they are...)

Now I think I may have found somthing kind of interesting. I checked the past events on a character that is in a gabby town, and somewhere along half of the dialog the links remained white, but everything else turned yellow. It actually made it very easy to read. I think that may be better then the old colors.

But I checked with my other characters, and didn't get it to happen. Just to make sure it wasn't a fluke, I logged out, then back in. Still did it.

It might have something to do with a siom map he has. It looks to be the same yellow as it's title (not that there is probably a large difference between yellows).

Yeah once on Blaman mountains I picked up a note that had a blue title with the ending tag missing and my past events for that character turned blue. Pretty funky. That's why HTML in note titles was disabled... Anyway, yellow on green looks peaceful because they're close to each other on the colour circle. So does blue on green if it's not too screaming (and blue might have a bit of red in it which makes the colour contrast terrible). What ever colour is selected should have different brightness from the green to help colourblind or otherwise limited people (bad screens) but the colour should be broken with a bit of green to avoid too big a contrast.

An American president spent a fortune in attempts to simplify the English language. Eliminating the letter "c" entirely. I forget which one it was, though...

Actually, I'm starting to lean towards "I don't care". Sure there has been a lot of changes lately that might be disturbing (and are for most) but things happen and you just gotta adjust. It's just on the surface, it's not the end of the world. When I first came to Cantr I thought what a crappy and confusing outlook, big blocks of introduction text, hard to find what you're looking for, almost no pictures, weird colour combinations, misspelled item descriptions, difficult or illogical sentences (like "You attack a(n) X using Y, which loses Z strenght", where the which would logically point at the weapon rather than the target), and the confusion of having an empty jewelry menu making me have to ask in game how does one get bone earrings... But looking over all this, and that you can't get to play right away but have to wait for an approval when you're just looking for a quick relief in your hunger for activities *deep breath* it's still a good game. And I think that's mainly because of the great rp'ers out there, for the freedom of choice, any character can become almost anything if they just keep trying.
