You guys are only thinking of the idea on the surface.
Think how it will be implemented and used.
People would be hiding all the time, and it is rather unrealistic to have 30 or so people snooping around, and not noticing them.

I'm just wondering if PD or something receives a notice about every new character created. Since Jay started as "name pending". :) I tend to write temporary names all lowercase so that I wouldn't get them mixed up with real names.

The PD used to have to approve of all character names before dynamic naming.

Yeah so that's why it says you won't be able to change this information afterwards when confirming character creation? That's true for language and gender but not for the name anymore. A relic.

west, the police called while you were out. They're looking for a friend of yours. Have you seen Mike Latoris?

(I actually fell for this the first time.    )

What? Game theory? Oh, umm....some char names sure are silly.

You could always change your name back in the day.

You do it the way you change anyone elses name. Just click on your name link, then type in your new name. Everyone that you've already told your old name will still call you by it, but all the new people you meet will call you by your new name.

I've done it a couple of times myself. Its more of a reminder though.

Yo_Yo,
I'm pretty sure they mean a time before dynamic naming, when all characters you met you already knew the name to without needing to greet them...unless I am mistaken?

correct, once upon a time you chose a name, and everyone automatically knew that name, much like buildings were until recently.

Yeah, unless you had multiple characters with typo-names.  Maria Herron had 3 R's in her last name, and I didn't even notice for a long time . . .

Yeah, not being able to change your name kind of sucked back then. I once had a brand new character die due to a bug so one of my longest lived characters has the same name, but one letter different since you couldn't use the same name twice. Back then I just named all of my characters after RL friends from school.

OWNED, as your avatar would say.

We're talking BACK IN THE DAY, not back in the day

One of my favorite old chars was Jame DeLeo...evidently that was a typo and it was supposed to be James, but I always thought Jame was a much more interesting name.
