Gone Fishin'

Postby Crosshair » Sat May 14, 2005 3:35 pm

How about being able to fish from a boat, cause that is realistic... but with a hunting rather than a project:

Animal menu:

5 seabass
2 tuna

You kill a tuna with a fishing spear.

you can't use anything but a spear or a pole.

or just a project, but fish don't stay by your boat so that would be less realistic.

Yeah that'd be cool. And how about some kind of net you can make out of cotton and other stuff like that.
And I begged her give me horses
To trample down my enemy
So eager was my passion
To devour this waste of life
But she would not think of battle that
Reduces men to animals
So easy to begin
And yet impossible to end

This has been suggested many many times, it's a good idea, but I don't know what's going on to implement it. I believe there are so many other things to do that there isn't much time to get around to this idea.

That is a good idea and would make traveling on boats a whole lot more interesting.

Better still, make some fish types only available in deep water. Like squid and stuff.

We could have a new wave of fishermen characters.

SCUBA GEAR! The romans had it, why can't we?
1223-4: You kill a elephant using a longbow.

Because other than looking at old bits of coral and checking out shipwrecks, what is it for?

Don't tell me you need Scuba gear to catch a fish. Nets, nets and rods.

1234-5 You see Captain Ahab use a man in his twenties as bait.

1234-5 Captain Ahab says "Here fishy fishy."

I think the biggest problem with this idea will be possible when they have animals on Roadmap, the free movement system.

See, on a road, you only have to keep track of animals in a line, they progress along the road and go from one place to another. On the Sea, you can wander all over the place, not just in neatly controlled straight lines. Figuring out how to make which animal where is beyond my ability to comprehend.
Reality was never my strong point.

seeing as fish are currently a resource, I don't see how it's a problem.

However, along the same lines is defining the areas where different kinds of fish are available

I'm sure if there can be a radius in which the docking button a ppears. There can be a radius in which the 'squid' or 'killertrout' button appears. Or maybe not, I know nothing about these things.

I'm not sure if this is possible, but why not split up seas and lakes into areas.

Each area has different types of fish whom you need certain equipment to fish for. This way, we could also have dynamic naming of water areas:

"You are sailing on the Siom Sea, going at 100 percent.
Available animals are: seabass, tuna, Moby Dick"

For sea-fishing, you could be required to build machinery that can only be built on boats. I don't know what it's exactly called, but those cranes and pulleys that drag the huge nets behind them, you could make a fishing business out of it!

Or you could just have fishing boats which come with.

Not so sure about the dynamic naming, that might be a litle too over the top and I'd be quite happy with just the fish. But it would be great to see some proper fishing ports and marinas develope.
