Dynamic Key Naming

Postby Crosshair » Tue May 10, 2005 3:36 pm

I hate having to go in and out of a building to see which key i have, one of my characters has many keys and always forgets which is which, as people often borrow them. i suggest dynamic key naming... so instead of key 2059689 it'd be Key to Storeroom... only to you though, not to anyone else unless they name it that, its like a label type thing...

I like the idea, but as posted before (sorry - can't remember who) with dynamic building naming, you can put the no. of the key onto the name of the building...

boomer - to put the key numbers for a building in the dynamic name. From "Boomhaeur" the originator of the idea.....

Well, it would just add another layer to the game, which wouldn't be too hard to implement i trust...

Yeah, I think it would not be *that* complicated to implement for objects, but it would be a little more complicated for just keys. But I don't know yet :) ... Add it as a suggestion to Flyspray if it's not there yet ...

Personally I don't like the idea of dynamic names for keys. With Boomering and *ahem* actually writing notes you should be able to remember which key goes to what.

Would there be a way to make sure you never accidentally erased the actual number of the key?

That's what I was thinking.
Perhaps a property of a key, that you could put in the name as a tag?
Like <CANTR CHARDESC>, only it would display the key's "serial number".
<CANTR KEYNO>, perhaps?

I don't really understand any objection. It is more realistic to look at a key and think 'that's my house key' than 'this is key no. 453219'. And I also think it is more realistic to have the name on the key, rather than the key on the building... if you get me.

We have dynamic naming for everything else... Why not keys (if possible, prog wise)?

oh by the way this is a great idea. I would love to see something like that. The only thing is though. I have already put alot of the work of going around and writing down what key goes to what.
