Last words

Postby thingnumber2 » Tue Nov 11, 2003 12:57 am

I was just thinking, it would be kinda cool and useful, if maybe when you were dealt the final blow, you could have a chance to say one last thing or write one last note before you die...so I could have some last words to my killer....

Write or say them before you die then.

But most of the time, people will kill you without warning, they aren't gonna say, hey..I'm gonna kill you now, so if there's anything you'd like to say or write, please do that now...

In real life you are awake (online) to say some dying words.

Unless you're not awake, of course. Or not aware of that high-speed-wide-load-truck that doesn't mind to kill you from behind.

We need a way for assassins to put a knife in someone's back sorta deal in the game. Maybe there should be a way to strike a mortal blow to an unaware subject with a chance of hitting it, missing but wounding, or totally missing and looking like an idiot. It wouldn't work against someone who was aware of your hostility or something.

Note to self: Add to my idea of new violence system. Need to post a complete version sooner or later.

You would have to have personal proximity implemented to first to even begin to make it fair for the victim.

Oh it'll work with my whole idea of the violence system that I have created. I haven't posted the full version yet but pieces of it which include the ranged weapons and stuff I was talking about at one point. It would work. But it would have to do with hostility flags and stuff. A character can flag another character he or she believes is hostile to them. If that character has them flagged then a sneak attack like that wouldn't work but might still do damage depeding on whether it hits but no motal blow. And once a sneak attack out in the open for everyone to see happens then that character automatically gets flagged by every character outside so he can't try it again. But if it happens in a room where no else's sees the killing then no other character will flag him unless done manually. But an attack like this takes great chance to do and would fail 3 out 10 times tried unless the character was skilled in attacking.

Flagging would also work in regular combat where a character that believes another character is hostile to them and flags them as such will see and might be able to dodge from the blow or block it resulting in less damage to the character if any.

A character who is flagged by another character will not know he is. Thats just some of the points of the new violence system I would like to see.

Not if it happens to fast to think of it, in RL most people don't get a "last word", you're only that luckly if you are mortally wounded but get to know you're going to die. Like being trapped in a car wreck for an hour wondering why you foot is so far away and you can't find your nose to scratch it. Perssonally I'd like mine to be quick and painless.

Flagging a person as hostile...if we could do that, Argos would have about 99% of the Quillanoi population flagged

...and of those irl who manage to come out with some last words I suspect it is more in the line of "my god, I'm dying!" or "he shot me" instead of the dramatic lines said in the movies.

I would say last words would be appropriate when you are down to a couple of percent in health and know you won't get away from the enemy...

My guess at the most common IRL comments each of which may or may not have colorful explatives along with them.

1) *various death nosies*
2) "I'm hurt I'm hurt" *said in disbelief*
3) "It hurts"
4) "I'll be OK" {...I feel happy...I'd like to dance a jig} follwed by death
