Nests

Postby Crosshair » Thu May 05, 2005 4:28 pm

How about a nest in the animals list.

"you try to take eggs from a nest, you are rewarded with a peck on the hand, you lose 1 strength"

"you take 2 eggs from a nest"

A random ammount between 1 and 5. only in places where there are hawks or other birds...

I don't know about taking them from nests, but eggs as a resource in places that have birds (or tortoises) would be cool.

You could only gather a very small amount a day, and they would have to be cooked first. I could see them as sort of a luxury item, like trout.

I like this idea - eggs as a resource would be good. But I guess, if they're a natural resource, they could only be gathered in 'grams', not as items... Also, it'd have to be linked somehow to the bird population (i.e: not exist if they die out) But as far as I know, resource gathering can't be variable...

In that case they could be in the animals menu?

"you kill a hawk using a sabre, it was protecting 10g eggs" maybe?

This is way too complicated for the benefit.

Would it be too complicated if it was just another animal resource? Kill a hawk and you get bones, meat, feathers and eggs, or something?

That would be less work, but it kind of seems unrealistic that the birds would carry the eggs with them.

How do you know they were carrying their eggs with them? Maybe they were sitting on their nest when you attacked them.

I try not to think of cantrian animals as real animals. It becomes too unrealistic.
If birds can fly, I find it strange how pretty much anyone can attack them with screwdrivers.

And who wants benificial, tiredness isn't beneficial, but we have it for realities sake. it isn't really complicated, it's just like a sheild really,

"bla bla attacks you with a sabre, you lose 20 strength, you save 20 strength on your iron sheild"

"you kill a hawk with a sabre, you gain 10g Eggs"

it is similar...

Well, I'd bet money it won't be implemented.

I wouldn't, but it was worth a shot.

Well, maybe the reason you can attack them with a screwdriver is because they were sitting on their eggs. Lots of birds have nests on the ground. (Not necessarily hawks and pigeons, but if they didn't fly they'd have to...)

Though if that were implemented I don't think you should get an egg every time you killed one. Rare is just more interesting...though it occurs to me that with the way food is handled in Cantr, expensive delicacies of any sort will probably never become popular. Eating is just too utilitarian; there's no social significance or reason to be impractical like there is in RL.

Except for healing food you can't eat whenever you feel like it (and even healing food may not be possible when you're uninjured, I can't remember), so parties and banquets are out of the question, and people can't see when you're eating so the 'showing off' element is lost...

Hmm. I'm getting off topic again, aren't I?

I agree that it should be by chance that you get an egg.

Eggs could be implemented as a resource you receive after killing a flying creature, however, as Nick stated, it's not realistic.

But then again, does it HAVE to be? Close enough, really...
