Known Bugs & Workarounds (PLEASE READ THIS FIRST)

Postby formerly known as hf » Tue Mar 29, 2005 11:40 am

Edit: Known Bugs - Cantr Wiki Is kept more up-to-date than this old list, which contains many bugs now dealt with.

Ok... with all the topics about characers screens messing up when dragging, dragging at 928476238% and whatnot.... I thought this might be useful... Please keep it as tidy and clear as possible - so people use this before posting topics on age old problems

Problem: Dragging project is at over 100%
Solution: Cancel project and start again

Problem: Character page is all screwy (and one of my characters was/is dragging)
Description: The character page will look weird, and will stop listing characters after the one that was/is dragging
Solution: Wait until the dragging project is finished, then you'll see a 'ghost' dragging project (no name, no destination) cancel it...

Problem: I can't break a lock
Solution: Unlocked locks can not be broken...

Problem: I can't pass things whilst travelling on foot
Solution: This isn't a bug (I don't think, just the way the game mechanics work...) You'll have to wait until you reach your destination

Problem: I want to get a picture I made in a note
Solution: Use the upload image button when creating a note

Problem: An animal just hit me for 654654654!!!
Solution: None - you just got unlucky... It happens - something in the water I guess...

Problem: I keep seeing the death of nameless animals
Solution:
The Industrialist wrote:Wiped out groups of animals on roads become 'ghosts' that look like nameless, (numberless?) stacks of animals traveling just as the group was before it was exterminated had been. They can be killed in a single blow from anything and give no resources.

Problem: I see [ship name] undocking everywhere
Solution: It's a Cantr ghost ship - be afraid!
Or just ignore it - some kinda glitch with docking/undocking procedures (I'm not sure what causes it - maybe someone could let me know and I'll add it?)

Problem: My building never appeared, and my vehicle is warping
Solution: Don't use HTML, or apostrophes, or hyphens, or anything else but letters (to be on the safe side) when naming buildings or vehicles - or their likely to get all manner of weird things happening to them...

Problem:I cant't login/Cantr doesn't load or the forums. Oh no. No Cantr!
Soltuion: At about 14:30 (GMT) the server does a backup, and this lasts (about) an hour - just sit tight.

Feel free to add any more you know of...

I have noted that pulling notes into a building does the same thing as dragging does

You can hit people on vehicles if you're on a road...and are you sure you can hit from a vehicle? I thought you had to get of, strike, and get back on.

Only if that's a bug. It could just as well be a slightly puzzling feature.

Could someone who can actually say tell us which it is?

Hmm, you know about these hammer makers and the whip maker? This is a bit off topic but has something to do with doing things on the road you normally can't. Anyway I was on the road, was gonna eat some healing food but accidentally clicked the use this resource on a project, and there were a hammer project and a whip project on the road! Of course couldn't use anything on them since none of them requires tomatoes... Wait, how was that button even there, doesn't it usually go away?

If you are on a vehicle travelling, you can pass stuff when you are moving. It works, because you can be more manueverable on the road- pull up to people- then get back on track, from a sensical standpoint. Of course, I'm sure there's a more technical reason..for why it is still like that.

If this gives anything away, please delete the post.

That dragging project is irritating as hell...I'm having less and less time playing and now a whole day of potential playing is ruined by that damn dragging project

*laughs* Not so far. The only bug that's been reported that I've experienced is the dragging one and because it's been reported, I know what to do about it.

*grins* Thanks to everyone who has explained what to do, it would be mighty confusing otherwise.

As a workaround this doesn't seem to work. One character of mine and another character were going to move some corpses. Some of the corpses were moved as soon as both were dragging, but for other corpses the dragging project was set to 132% every time we tried.

It's also possible that if you're the initiator, and you cancel the project, the project sometimes (So I've noticed?) gets passed onto another participant. Just assist them, if it doesn't work, cancel and assist again, etc etc.
