Using a crowbar

Postby Pulpcatcher » Sat Apr 09, 2005 2:04 pm

Over the last couple of rl months I've had characters with crowbars trying to break into locked buildings. After having tried over twenty times now with two different characters in different locations, on different doors, I've now stopped counting my number of attempts.

I realise that success in using a crowbar is based on luck but this seems ridiculous now and I'm frustrated with it. Is there a special knack to doing it? Are my characters lacking the skills needed? Is a bug of some sort occurring?

Perhaps someone can clear this up, it'd be much appreciated.

There is a catch. First you ffer some food to any random god. Then you spin in a circle going as fast as you possibly can three times. Then you take your mouse, put it on the big X at the top right part of your screen and click.

Seriously, I've noticed how hard it is as well. Maybe We should have the option to put in good luck charms?

Interesting, I have a character who's done it on first attempt three times now, may be it's a skill thing..

There isn't a knack. I think breaking a lock is both based on skill and on chance.

I have a character that broke one ok around 1132. Since then, I have tried 3 times, all failures. Could something have changed around then?

I know this is not 4 days old, but I don't think anybody could benefit as I don't think anybody knows its one of my characters. So someone, somewhere has been attempting to break a lock.

No. Nothing has probably been changed. What most likely happened was that you got lucky the first time, and not so lucky the other times you tried.

The fourth time was the charm. The lock is open.

Yeah, this one is subjective...but one of my characters has been trying for days to break a lock, and someone else was trying before...no good. This has to be at least 6 tries.

I've got to wonder what the numbers this thing is working off of are...

What's this? Mass hysteria?

Nothing has been changed regarding breaking of locks, as far as I know. I will look at it, to see if there's probably a skill that's having too much negative influence, though.

Nope, no changes at all there. No skills involved, either. It's a matter of luck, so that characters can't safely steal buildingsfrom others that are just a few days away to get supplies.

Sometimes it works instantly, sometimes it doesn't.

This is not a bug.
