Is there a sun in Cantr?

Postby Sarah » Tue Apr 26, 2005 9:08 pm

Not like anyone really cares or that it matters, but is there a Cantr sun?

Assuming Cantr is somewhat like real life, a sun is absolutely necessary for life. All life (as we know it) eventually depends on plants for food and thus energy, and plants cannot complete photosynthesis without light. No sun = no people. How do people in Cantr "see" things with no light from a sun? Why doesn't everything freeze? How do vehicles move without the super-advanced solar power? Also, people get weird without sun (and can't tell time), and a small quantity is required for some necessary chemical to work in the body, which I can't recall the name of.

Or are Cantr physics so different from real life, none of this reasoning applies?

Or maybe there are multiple suns, Cantr is perfectly locked between them, and it is constantly light outside? I wonder if that would work, without their gravity pulling the planet (assuming Cantr is like a planet) apart.

*grins* I don't have anything else to think about at school . . .

How do you see things inside the windowless buildings with locked doors?

You know, I was about to ask that myself.

Because if there was a sun, we could have sun cults, and religions that incorperate the sun into them, and the night for that matter.

Thanks for bringing it up.

@Kin,

With shafts and openings that allow for slits of light to pass through.

(How else would the fire place fumes exit, since we don't have chimneys?)

Also, we may have shuttered windows, instead of those of glass.

They must be pretty tiny shafts because people can't shoot arrows through them. And there would have to be thousands of them to get enough light to do needlework indoors.

I suppose some light could come from fireplaces, ovens, furnaces, etc.

Mud shutters? Stone shutters?

If there were windows or even shafts people could look outside and see what was going on. Also hear conversations.

It's Cantr! :D Light just exists.

The picture of the forest clearly shows sunlight filtering through the trees.

Case closed. :)

See what even just a teeeny weeeny bit of graphics does to an argument. :P

 Have you ever thought about the doors on stone buildings? Are they made of stone too? How can people move them without hinges?

Wha? You mean it's not a big boulder that you roll out of the way? Cantrians have some excellent upper body muscles, y' know....

Clearly there's no such thing as night...I'm not really convinced there's a sky at all. But if there is it must be light (or dark) 8 hours a day.

Oh, and the cantr in the center of a ring of suns can't work, I don't think...Not because of the effects on cantr (if they're spaced right they won't have any noticable effect on it at all) but because they would goul one another's orbits up. Unless you made it a continuous ring of sun surrounding the poor little world, and spinning...that could work, in theory.

You run under the belief that Cantr is round...what if it's not...but a ring around a sun?

Well, actually, that'd still make it round, but everything facing inward...like a reverse gravity.

If you assume that Cantrians live on the inner, bright side of the donut, then they will eventually have to discover...The Dark Side of Cantr.

Daaah da dah! <== ominous soap opera music.

Or! It could be a flat, two-sided band, like a ribbon and they won't be able to get around that edge to the other side but they all have evil dopplegangers over there (except for the evil ones who have virtuous doubles) who all have soul patches and sexy little chin beards and they all wear sunglasses even though it's dark. This is the men of course. The women are all sex bots.

I disagree there's no night/day. I consider the first hours of a cantr day, day. The last hours night.

That is very invalid with respect to the international character of cantr players and the behavior of time zones...

Also bad since you're making up something that everyone ought to see if anyone does, and it is clear that not everyone does.
