Total gayness

Always nice to see Cantr is getting so many thoughtful new players to add depth and complexity to the game. And he read all the way to the first page? Wow, dedicated, too.

My thoughts exactly. I love the idea of signs (as long as they can be destroyed as well as created) and dynamic names and yadda yadda, and while I think amnesia is a necessary thing, please let signs be implemented in advance. I'm just not sure if I'll be able to get 100% behind it until I know this isn't going to be another one of those "deterioration first, repair maybe sometime in the future" situations.

But otherthan that I welcome the changes. They'd be much more realistic, too, as uncharted wilderness typically doesn't come prenamed, (unless the animals are more intelligent than previously thought...), and it makes sense for people to want to call their town by something other than the local geography.

::nods:: Yeah, it makes me happy too :) ... (At least, I suppose you cannot be referring to sexual preference, as that really has little to do with naming buildings ...)

Anyway - yes, I will introduce signs before I'll do any amnesia and I won't implement this amnesia very quickly, if at all. But I think it would be nice, eventually (I voted yes ;) ...).

I actually was thinking of implementing signs in addition to the current dynamic naming. You guys seem to describe it as instead of the current naming of buildings ... Would that really be better? I'm not so sure ...

Yeah, I was thinking they'd be in addition. Now please Jos, when signs are introduced, create a general amnesia.
We will all enjoy it, regardless of people on the forum being afraid of change.

Every time something cool is added, most people say NO!
You never listened to us complaining the other times, and we're better off that way.
Why listen now?

I was talking in addition, Jos.

As in, you have the dynamic name (which is like your memory), and you have a sign you can read which is on the buildings entry on the location page like a note on the ground.

I wrote:... Maybe if there are two entries, one of which is a nameplate (the current name) and one is what you know it as. The nameplate name can only be changed by building a new one... that might address the amnesia issue.

That's my suggestion. But I liked the idea that included saying whether the building was stone as such...

But I think if you make so that all building s currently have signs, and newly buildings have them included, then there is little room for complaint when amnesia is implemented.

Yes, I meant in addition too. You may fondly remember a place as being Jill's House of Naughty Entertainment, but what you didn't know is that while you were on a trip it was bought by the Temple of Chaste Nudists...good thing for the new sign out front or else there might have been a horrible misunderstanding. :D

Jos was here first

Seriously, though, I voted "yes" for amnesia with the understanding that name plates would be in addition to...perhaps in a similar place on the building's description as clothing is on a person's.

I know RL is different from in game, but you when McDonalds takes over a building from another company, they don't leave the old sign up and tack theirs underneath, you only ever see one sign.

My preference is for naming of buildings and towns and roads to be project rather than dynamic. But it looks as though I'm in the minority.

I'm not sure that you are... What I mean is, with nameplates it would take a project to replace them. But nameplates will be alongside dynamic naming... for instance, I may call McDonalds "Almighty House of Satan", but the sign would say McDonalds. With a project I could change the signpost, but I reserve the right (through dynamic naming) to call it whatever I like regardless of the sign.

Did I explain that well enough? I'm not sure.

No offense, but do you realise how bad that idea is?

Anyone could start projects to rename towns and buildings to random names.

To be sure - buildings and locations are not going to work exactly the same here.

In fact, for locations I already implemented the signs about an hour ago ;) ...

Jos, are you going berserk on Cantr upgrades this week, or something?

Not that I'm complaining in any way!
