Personally, I find it stupid you can walk around towns that noone lives in, and know the name of the town.

Why is this stupid? When I drive into a town in rl, there's a sign that tells me the name of the town, each building has a sign that tells me the name of the building. Otherwise it would be chaos. Just like I think this will be if we no longer know the names of any buildings, town, or vehicles. I think it's ridiculous, and I hope it doesn't happen.

A big NO vote here.

Exactly. Though not everywhere has signs.

You've missed the point, though. Signs will obviously be implemented alongside this.

I wouldn't want to see amnesia unless it's somehow balanced:
- Mark the direction of the roads.
- Implement (replaceable) signposts for towns, road ends, buildings etc.
- Add a special-one time signpost to every existing item, bearing its current name. We have item deterioration, right? These could disappear in like 50 days. Only towns and buildings that present interest to the dwellers will have their names made permanent.

My vote is yes, but I think that building signs should be implemented first, as has been written in another thread, you can see that one building is McDonalds, another is Burger King and another KFC. I think that towns should also have the ability to create signs stating their name, that can be changed by a project, and can be seen by everyone as they arrive. If the sign is changed, everyone sees the change and that is the town name.

The only problem that would occur is if town A changed it's name to town X and the neighbouring towns B and C had signs pointing to town A. But then, it's only a case of going to towns B and C and telling them that A is now called X. This does happen sometimes IRL, think of St Petersburg / Leningrad and Byzantium / Constantinople / Istanbul, so I think it would be quite appropriate

Yes, but with the caveat that signs for buildings MUST come first.

And while we're on the subject, any chance of getting signs for roads?

Everyone who voted NO but actually meant "Yes, providing signs are added too" should have posted YES. And I think many people did mean that, from re-skimming the topic.

Perhaps a poll with the option "Yes, if signs are implemented first"?

I personally can't believe peoplea re so against it. It's a natural progression with dynamic naming, and we have had no problems with adapting to that. Could you imagine going back to static names? I certainly couldn't.

Now, what's the big difference between people and locations/buildings?

At least buildings stay still, as do locations.

You should know better.

Cantrians hate change. We all protest new additions, and Jos doesn't listen.
We moan and complain, and then over time it makes the game way better.

Jos, don't listen to us! We don't know what we want, you're Cantr's mastermind!

Yup. That would be very useful.
