Deployment over!

This evening, my husband will be home after having been gone since November to Afghanistan.
None of you likely care about my excitement, but I can't help myself.

Today, is different than most. Most I like to bitch about the US government and I'm inclined to agree with most who bitch about our policies in this country. I hate the war in Iraq and I still think President Bush is an idiot. Today I want to express how proud I am of soldiers/airmen/seamen.

Some are sent away for longer than my husband has been gone, some never come home. Some go, even though they disagree with going to war at all. While some might think it's hypocritical to join a branch of the service while disagreeing with war in any aspect, I believe any person gone to serve our nations cause deserves appreciation. Its not easy to leave your family at home, not knowing if you will ever see them again for whatever reasons those may be.

Today I want to come clean, and say that while I am sometimes a harsh critique of my own country, I do love my freedoms and I do love my soldier.

Also a special thanks to any of you in any country, who have a member or loved one in your family that serves their country or that has someone deployed currently.

Congrats, MIssy. That's awesome to hear a happy story out of the whole mess. I wish the media could do a bit more of that... It's so depressing to only hear about the guys that come home dead and ignore the ones that make it back alive. Didn't we learn anything from Vietnam? So much for jounalistic integrity, fair and balanced, ...I'll step off the soap box now.


My friend's brother will be shipping off soon. She's understandably awfully worried about him, and I can see how rough it is on family and friends. His wife is four months pregnant right now too. I wish I could have met him, he sound's like a real brave and stand up guy.

Glad too. My buddy just got home a month ago.

i tried to join up when I first got out of high school. But in my physical, they said my knees were too weak (Damn you football!). So I got stuck living here... in Ohio...

Id like to sign up, i was going to but then got stuck doing something for awhile now.

I still want to but i doubt they would accept me because of my hand. My right hand had three broken knuckles and now I have no grasping strength in it.

Well theres more to the army (or any branch) then just fighting. I just didn't want to go in unless I was going to be fighting. I hate sitting out.

Yeah, people probably think we are stupid for it.

But that is what I wanted to do. I dont want a desk job or anything.

I just feel I could better serve my country on the front line rather then behind a desk. Besides, Iraq already took one of my good buddies. Man... I wanna be over there tearing something up...

I know several people who have gone to Irag, I dont know if they made it back or are almost done though. I havnt spoken to their families for awhile now.

one was in the marines as a mechanic, another was in the army as a solider, another in the army as, I dont know what you would call it but he operated those mobile missle things, and another one in the navy.

I really don't think we should have ever gone into Iraq, but once we were there there was no way we could back out so I backed what Bush was doing there, just not really why he went in the first place.

As for the military, I think are military is being spread too thin. There is a difference between fulfilling dutys as a superpower and being just plain arrogant.

i don't think i could ever consider joining the military. if i was directly responsible for the intentional killing of another person i don't think i would be able to live with myself, especially if that person were a stranger to me, someone i have no way of judging.

but i do appreciate the people who can take on such a job and risk their lives for the good of the nation. it's necessary for the country to have an army to defend itself with in times of need. i think right now the administration is abusing these people who have promised to lay down their lives for the nation. they shouldn't be rewarded for their bravery by being exposed to unnecessary risk. that's what i would deem this war: unnecessary. it's not worth the cost to human life. but as has been said, it's too late now to pull out. we're stuck in this mess.
