Bronze Age...Not.

Postby The Sociologist » Sat Apr 23, 2005 8:27 pm

So bronze is theoretically in the game.

But what's with "phosphorus"...or has it been added to the maps since Andaru and the others last did their rounds?

unfortunately, I have no idea what you mean, but doubt that we will see a true bronze level of development until the deterioration systems are sorted out.

I mean most people have a charrie with access to a smelter so you can go take a quick peek, but what's with this resource called "phosphorus"?

give it a few days and I'll take a look.

As for phosphorus, flash bang grenades? photography? flares? some kind of WW1 gas/weapon possibly?

Unless you mean it's a smelter option, in which case...*raises one eyebrow, with a slight frown and bemused smile* (ref the OOC Speech thread ;) ) but basically I'd find that rather odd

So, you don't even need a smelter...look at a firepit.

And without this phosphorus, no bronze. I don't think this has any RL basis...it's just resources' little way of keeping the wrong (that is, any) people from using their new invention.

Unless of course the 'no new resources on populated islands' rule has been canceled...I'm pretty certain that phosphorus didn't exist before.

Cool chemistry fact #1373: Pure solid phosphorous catches fire in air if it dries!

That's just wicked cool. :D Don't know what it would do inside a smelting furnace.

I have no doubt that's the reason.

In fact, the optimized amount of copper to tin is nine to one (10% and 90% of bronze). It is true that other elements can replace tin, including arsenic, zinc, phosphorus, lead and aluminum. But then phosphorus-bronze alloy is not bronze as traditionally understood.

We only see things as people discover them and talk about them here, really.
I'm sure the plan for the implementation of bronze smelting is better than what we're worrying it will be.

This is why we never make things public.

You all hide in a corner and plot the ways that we can screw you over

You're all nuts. Don't worry, we'll appeal to your needs, so hush while it's gets finished!

You are correct but other resources are used such as zinc and phosphorus which were used in the ancient times. There are many different Bronze-Alloys ie. ancient bronze, silicone bronze, bell bronze, etc... Right now, I'm sticking to just ancient bronze.

Not quite...the earliest bronze (in the middle east, at least) was copper-arsenic. Very convenient...you can make it by smelting two ores together, rather than smelting out metals first and melting them.

Did ancient bronze (of either kind) really use phosphorus?

Make sure Swedish island gets a share. There's copper but nothing to mix it with. Oh wait, gold and hematite but I don't think those make anything.

The information online said it did.

Well if it was on the internet, it must be true.
