Wooden Lock?

Postby JoeF » Fri Apr 15, 2005 11:20 am

You know the thing I mean. A big piece of wood slotted across to stop the door from opening.

You would be able to see that the door has a wooden lock and anyone would be able to attempt to break it (shoulder barge) if they fail they lose 10% health.

That'd be great! 8)

Here's always a good start: http://www.cantr.net/forum/viewtopic.ph ... ooden+lock

And then we have...

The novelty of the idea is nearly...well nearly nothing.

I think I've suggested it myself, once, long ago.

Has been suggested at least twice before but that health loss for failed break attempt is a good fresh addition.

I'd like to see an alternative lock (witness the many threads).

Just a wooden version with more lock breaking tools for it would be enough I think, no need to go overboard

Heh, if you want originality, try this: a bone lock.
If you can craft a bleeding SHIELD out of bones, you can probably make a lock. At least if the lock is just a removable way to bar a door. Hell, you can bar a door with a big rock.

Yes, the bone shield does stretch the imagination a little, well, a fair bit actually

A bone shield is actually something I'd associate more with a fantasy game.

And I don't really mind that this thread's a bit redundant; that just shows that a wooden lock must be a very desired thing to a lot of people.

Indeed, we all know how busy the staffers are, and even they can forget things, so we just gently remind them every so often ;)

Lol, if we can have a wooden lock, then I say we can get a battering ram.

It takes two people (one modern swat forces use, but a bit bigger and clumsier). It would work like a crowbar. You have a certain chance to break the wooden lock/slat.

How would that work tho it wouldn't make any sence unless if it were used to lock yourself in during an emergeny you can't walk outside when the wood is on the door

Picture the old wooden beam across the castle door sickgerm, its usable only from the inside.

Even if a person could only lock or unlock the thing from the inside (of course wouldn't require a key) it would still be incredibly useful, at least compared to no lock at all because your character and/or entire region doesn't have access to iron and steel yet.

In the other threads it was suggested that a stone hammer could break it. I'm not exactly sure about the realism of that, but it does fit with the whole low-tech theme.

Sledgehammer seemed more intelligent for smashing things like doors. Maybe need to replace a door as well?
