When we send stuff to Pictures@cantr.net we can only have 40KB of data for the image i have an online storage for photo's that allowed outsourcing and can hold bigger files if i send the photo to Pictures@cantr.net and get it approved would it be possible for me to use the image that is too big for cantr to support with my online photo storage system?

Reason is that we have no control over off-site hosting. Example: if the player that made the Treefeather map had hosted it off-site, then had an argument with his provider and had to shut down his site, all the in-game occurrances of the map would be gone, showing that famous little "X"...
Don't know about the 40 KB though... I didn't know there was a limit. Anthony...?

Know that i look at it maybe I just misenterpreted . . . does that mean that if it looks like something important it will be approved or if they can make it smaller by changing the format? Or does it simply mean they will look at it to check if its appropriate? Otherwise i don't get why it would have to be approved unless if there was a size limit tho last time i looked at it i just changed the format to GIF but with some stuff it would look really crappy that map was a crappy map to begin with tho so doesn't matter. I dunno maybe i just assumed cause when i got this E-mail the first thing a saw was the 40KB limit and didn't read the rest. . . sorry if i just misenterpreted.

I found a pretty decent free image storage online which allows you to put pic on other sites actually even gives you the HTML www.switchphoto.net for anyone who is interested
- You may upload up to 10 images at once.
- Each image cannot exceed 1024 Kb in size.
- Image titles and descriptions are optional
- You may upload images of the following types: jpg, jpeg, gif, bmp, Png, .

The process is manual, they have download the image from the email. Then via some program or another, downsize the quality/size. After that, upload it into Cantr. That's how I reckon it's done....
Also, offsite (off-cantr) images should NOT be in game, because of the reasons Jur brought up. Thus, that's not the problem.
However, Sickgerm, if you want an avatar (forums), you can use the photobucket, or what not, for that.

What this means is that the picture was too big to meet the parameters set on the email system. It is held until the list moderator (GAB) can send it through manually. We don't approve/disapprove. That is up to programming, what happens to it then. And what Nitefyre has explained may very well be how it is done. Anthony would be the best to ask, though, since I believe it is he who deals with the pictures.

Oasis is correct (Sorry I didn't notice this thread before!)
When you send us a picture, at pictures@cantr.net, if the file size is less than 40 KB, it comes straight to me. If it is larger, it must be approved, in the instance that the mail is some malatious program or something stupid. Once approved, however, it then comes to me.
Once I receive that, I then upload the picture. Your picture must fit the following requirements:
- Any common format (BMP not reccommended; JPG, PNG, or GIF very reccommended). If you can't change the format, don't worry, I can convert it. Just, some formats make the image smaller, and smaller is by far better.
- File size of under 70 KB (The image MUST be smaller than this size. If it is not, I will take the liberty of tweaking the picture to get it below this size. That could be making the picture smaller, reducing quality, or removing colours. Only in rare instances is a picture above 70 KB uploaded.)
- The image should be smaller than 600 x 480 in dimentions. It can be larger, but it's not very good at looking cosmetic in the notes... the note size is only so large.
- The image must be presentable. It can't be porn, violence, whatever, you're all mature enough to know what I'm talking about here.
- The image can not violate the Capital Rule. This is... questionable. For example, if you submit a picture of... say... a personal compter. That doesn't exist in Cantr... so, how would it be in a picture? Of course, you could give me the excuse that it's a painting of a futuristic ideal... then I'll slap you, and grudgingly upload it... maybe.
- As well, please, do not steal someone elses work. Some pictures have copyrights, and by sending us a picture you agree that what you've sent us follows the guidelines, and is not stolen. If it is, we can not take responsibility for any actions taken against us, because it's impossible to know what all is copyright material... well... unless there's a waterstamp in the picture itself. Then I'd be all "WTF?!"
Now, of course, when you submit, PLEASE be sure to:
A) Allow 'anthonyroberts_86 (ATSIGN) yahoo.com' through your spam filter.
B) Make sure your e-mail client accepts e-mails as TEXT ONLY. If it accepts it as HTML, then when I send you the HTML tags to place in your notes, it'll actually show you the uploaded picture in the e-mail, rather than the tag... if you don't want to change the settings, or don't know how, tell me, and I'll send you the tags with spaces and junk so that it doesn't mess up.
C) Allow time. I work full time, and do a lot for Cantr as well. I may not get to the picture for a day or so, depending on what needs to be done to
it. If there is a problem, I will contact you.
(Optional) D) Lastly, sign up for a PayPal account and deposit your life savings, then donate 75% of it to Cantr, and the remainder to me
