Death of old age? Not likely.

Postby Schme » Wed Apr 20, 2005 1:27 pm

I was playing Cantr the other day, and I got to thinking....The oldest person I have ever seen in Cantr is sixty years old. I've never seen anyone live past that age.

I've never heard of anyone dieing of old age. I wonder, is it possible? People don't tend to live long enough to see, from what I know.

Also, I was thinking (and it really hurt my head), even if it is possible, well, it can't happen often.

If you think about it, Cantr is a dangerous world to live in.

People are constantly starving to death, people being killed, leaders being over thrown.

If someone has to wonder as to weather you can die of age, it must certainly be a dangerous place indeed.

Any, just a thought.

If anyones seen someone die of age, please, let me know.

I can't seem to dig it up, but I think at least one character has. A woman in her 70's some place. Though I could be wrong about that.

You do reallize, it's not just that people die off. The entire game has been running for less than 60 years since the dating system came in (I think there might have been some time not counted by the system, in the very beginning?). So not many spawns have had a chance to die of old age.

True enough. I suppose that might be it.

But 70 years? That mean she only lived 50 years!

Although, now that I think about it, is a very long time.

I didn't say exactly how old she was...only that it was between seventy and eighty (that is the meaning of seventies)

So the king has time to die before necessarily being older...

Also, it's been stated, I think in what hallucinatingfarmer posted, for one, that the age of death is randomized.

Characters have already died of old age? The very oldest ones alive are probably only in the 76-77 year range (by my speculation).

Not to turn this into a suggestions topic, but I would think it would make more sense for old characters (old meaning in the 100's  ) to become unable to do work and make them extremely susceptible to disease and easy to kill? As a society simulator, Cantr societies should have to deal with the issue of whether or not to keep old and useless (in terms of physical labor) people alive at the expense of younger people . . . just as IRL.

Well, I have characters in their seventies and they function pretty well. Not that I pay a lot of attention, most of them don't work much anyway.
