Attack skill and hunting skills are different. You have one value for attacking Cantrians, and one for the animals.

As system I can safely say I despise with a loathing.

The skills that is, not the separate skills. I fwe have to have the infernal things, they should be separate.

Well it is more difficult to hit an animal with a sword then a person.

As the person almost never uses his instinct to escape/dodge.

And you might have been more tired.

Tiredness has an impact... but not as much as skills do.

You can do 50 damage on a person and only 20 on an animal if you are a bad hunter.

Tiredness makes a much bigger impact on comabat than hunting, I believe. But I might be making that up.

Agreed, I've played many third-rate muds with broken skills systems, and Cantr has managed to prove the worst of the whole lot. And as for making it "hidden"--well, words simply fail me. We lost so many empire-building players over all this crap. No more Caesar. More like Groucho.

They should amend the front page to read: "You can play Groucho or Harpo or Groucho or Harpo or just maybe Jesus...though that's debatable. If you attempt to be a power-player of any kind whatsoever, then the PD (many of whom are power players) will kick your sorry ass."

By the way, are you sure hunting skill is completely divorced from combat skill? If so, then that's even more idiotic. Until now, though, I've noticed that charries with exceptionally poor hunting skills do little damage in combat. I do detect some pattern.

Zaro once had to chase a homicidal maniac and did very little damage with an atlatl, about 6. That's not far off the damage of 8 or 9 he did against lions. Same with Rhodri, the "deputy sheriff". Couldn't hunt for toffee and never did any real damage against thieves either. Whereas my Siom-area charrie, who's a superlative hunter, always does tremendous damage to newspawn thieves without shields as well.

Even non-violent Maxen once hit a thief with a dungfork in his younger days. Got same result as hitting a sheep. All other cases seemed to match up roughly within certain parameters that I've identified. Remember, there's a random element to combat, especially where shields are involved, but that's not the same thing.

Of course this is just a hypothesis awaiting more corroboration, so an outright refutation is also possible.

But on the other hand, if they really don't match, then how is a newspawn supposed to know how he'll do in combat? Hit somebody? And if he doesn't know, then how can you begin roleplaying how he is to live his life? Is he big, strong and dangerous, or a Loki-like character who must live by his wits, or a saintly pacifist? THIS IS NOT ROLEPLAY. THIS IS STUPIDITY.

Bah! This thread makes me feel like leaving the game all over again. :x

If you like to make stupid remarks like that, do it somewhere else, please. General Support is not for chatting, nor for insinuating. While your stupid comment is completely unfounded, many of your characters have cooperated with each other, so I guess, you shouldn't be pointing fingers, in the first place.
