A lot of people who might be looking for a game one day might not be interested the next because they continued to look for a game and found a different one. So I'd venture to say that most people don't even sign on to the site. If I remember right the screenign was to rule out any names that were innapropriate but with the dynamic naming system is this neccessary anymore?

Well, the PD is supposed to check IP addresses and other criteria I am not sure of.
But surely this could be handled by a simple script?

Many new players are accepted automatically. The PD only looks at those applications that might be one player having several accounts.

Question.

Are characters actually made with an account 'accepted' email?

Or do you have to login to form them?

The latter would keep the masses of unplayed death awaiting characters to a lesser amount.

The two starting chars are created as soon as the acct is approved, I think.

To note: Killing your chars off to get ones with better stats is a CR breach, as is killing them off to get a prefered starting point.

I understand some people don't have time. Hell, I didn't play at all last week.

If you don't have the time, it's perfectly understandable. But if your still playing Cantr anyway, each thing only takes about ten minutes tops, and like I said, either your uninteresting boring character will die soon, or end up writting Mein Khamph.

Not alot of effort for alot of ghettofabulousness, if you ask me.

@Jes,

Ah, thanks. I would therefore suggest character spawning only after account activation.

Seconded. For some reason I thought this was the way it worked, but then it's been since Aug 23, 2003 since I last signed up for a cantr account

I know I, at least, often sign up for web thingies (be they games, forums or what-have-you) and then, either out of lack of time or lack of interest, seldom go back to them. (I just got a birthday email a couple months ago from the head of a LOTR forum I joined back in Sept. of 2001...I've posted 6 times on it since then)

I would much rather character creation began the first time you logged in AFTER your account was activated. That means it would take some effort to do, and would thus wipe out at least a sizeable percentage of Terry Shiavo spawns (by this i mean the body's there but the brain is on a permanent vacation--i'm now going to hell).
I'm not dead; I'm dormant.

I agree with only spawning characters after the player comes back to the website with an activated account. I would also like to allow a newbie to play more than 2 players. With only 2 characters you set them to work or travel, then perhaps talk a bit and your done... Why not let them start with 4-5 characters and hook them a bit more. On the flip side. I think that when a slot has a new character spawned in it, that slot should be locked for the time it would take for that character to die of starvation.

For example if you have 14 characters and spawn your 15th, If your 15th is killed, you cannot spawn another until that character would have starved. This might cut down on note stealers and other thieves who are just trying to get their characters killed so they can respawn.

I personally have a couple charries I'm interested in, a couple in places where it is hard to get food, a couple that I just can't seem to find anything interesting for me....I have the charrie in my head before they are spawned and they act as they were created. So for someone quiet and shy, she isn't going to speak up but just keep on working. Another will leave the area if he doesn't like it...which one of my guys did.

I'm not killing them off to find a better spot, and I have several charries in "less interesting" places who have found a purpose. One such had decided maybe she would die since nobody seemed to care if she did or she didn't (she's a little fatalistic) and then someone she had helped in the next town over came around and ta-da, she had a lease on life again.

So I don't think that just because I have a few charries dying of hunger that I am breaking the CR. I am not a huge fan of super-active places as it is hard to keep up unless you know everyone and everything, so some of my best charries are in very lightly populated areas. And then again, I keep almost running out of time so I don't think I'll make much more effort on those about to die in places without food. Why should I?

Is that breaking the CR?

It's killing off a character just so you can start a new one that might be more favorable that is the CR breach. I've thought about deleting a few of mine due to lack of time and what not, and yeah in that situation would pick the least interesting ones. But if you have to kill off your boring character just because it's boring and then start another, that is when the breach occurs.

Well, I have started a few bc I realized I had more time on my hands...then didn't anymore. I bet that happens a lot in Cantr.

Strangely I just keep dragging through. I always have an ingame reason for my characters dying when they do, be that suicide or sickness. Many good ones have died and many boring ones stayed alive. Important ones lost their will to live and silent ones thrown into adventures. So you never know what might happen.

Death is a great thing, you only die once and are sure to get a bit of attention when your name turns white all of a sudden, so I'm thinking you better do it with style. But the problem is when you get to dying you might get so much attention and bustle around that you wouldn't want to die after all. There you just gotta keep your head straight and tell yourself this character is gonna die and I won't turn back. Because it's like all those teen girls treatening to kill themselves to get some attention.

Though remember kids, such things should be taken seriously. It's not true that those who say it never do it. Most people killing themselves tell about their thougths to someone before doing it. A suicide attempt is a final, desperate call for help. I'm sure most of those people keep hoping till the last moment that someone would save them. That's why they might call the hospital after slitting their wrists or taking pills.

Cases like the character deciding life didn't matter...that can certainly be all good.

Cases like you mention in the second paragraph of characters starving, if I understand correctly, because you couldn't spare the minutes to have them try to get food and stay alive...that seems wrong to me. Maybe you need one or two less characters?

And how do you reach a state of "one or two less characters"?

You kill them off.

Duh!
