I say, you have no business telling kids what they can and can't do. That's a job for the parents. Parents should be aware of what kids are doing on the net and if they don't think they can handle that, then they should not be allowed on the net at all.

Actually that's not the case. Any online community has rules, and it's up to the owners to create the rules. They choose to let people use the cantr service (nobody forces them to let us) and they can choose HOW.

If Jos decides he doesn't want people typing in blue on the forum, he can make it a rule and if a minor does it, he can be banned. It doesn't have to be fair, it's just how life works.

Whether or not it's a good idea to tell people what they can and can't do online, the fact is that in cantr's circumstance, they DO have business doing so if they choose.

(I hope you can recognize that I'm making an analogy here)

No offence West, but I interprete what he said differently. The PD can;t limit what minors do, because of the ease with which they can lie about their age.

And I agree that we shouldn't tell kids what they can and can't do. If only becuase it will make no difference in the long run.

Cantr, of course, can have its own rules. But enforcing them, in this instance, is beyond even the extensive reach of the PD

West, I agree with you fully that you can have rules in any community. And you also should have rules which everyone thinks are sensible, even if it is impossible to uphold them.
Prime example is the Capital Rule; it's impossible to enforce using techniques or other practical methods. Only because everyone (well, the most of us) agree with it and help to uphold it.

However, the thing with sexuality and minors is not something that can be easily upheld, even with the help of everyone here. And besides that, every parent has different rules about these things and it should be a task for the parents to raise their kids, not Cantr or even the web.
