Heh. I just used Opera's "Emulate text browser" [edit: starting from inside this thread] setting to see what cantr would be like as a text-only game ( mean really text only)

And I saw something really interesting:
Just under the "Cantr II discussion forum" title [edit: in the forum pages. I thought this was clear but apparently it's not] there's a link called "Italian Charms", which leads to www.elite-charms.com.

It is invisible in normal mode although it does appear as a link;
in the source code it is

Code: Select all

<style>#forumbbot {display:none;}</style><div id=forumbbot><a href=http://www.elite-charms.com/>italian charms</a></div><br />&nbsp; </span>

I doubt Jos put that in there...I wonder what the deal is?

Check your computer for spyware/spamware. That sounds like an added link on your side. When I view the Cantr home page, it's not there.

You're not paying attention.

It's in the FORUM.
Underneath the TITLE
"Cantr II Discussion Section"

it is INVISIBLE (hence the display:none attribute in the CSS tag)

it is IN THE SOURCE CODE
and VISIBLE WITH A TEXT BROWSER

That Italian Charms thing was the link that the Russians who were spam adding themselves as new forum members was using. A while back in some thread I mentioned how there were a bunch of new members all with numbers in their names and references to charms who never posted and had web site links to jewelry ads. I think it was a thread Seko started about people who never post.

I'm not very awake and so can't form real sentences. Sorry.

Sounds like another present from the worm, maybe?

I see it.

View the main forum index's source, and search for "http://www.elite-charms.com". It's there. About 14 screens across on the line that says:

<td align="center" width="100%" valign="middle"><span class="maintitle">Cantr II Discussion Forum</span><br /><span class="gen">

West, please don't talk to me like I'm an idiot. You didn't say it was in the Forum. You said you were seeing what cantr would be like as a text-only game, so naturally I thought you were looking at the GAME. You said it was under the "Cantr II discussion forum" title, which I interpreted, incorrectly, as the link to the forum from the game. Since I use that link far more often than I ever even look at the title at the top of the forum pages, and since you didn't actually say on which page the link appears.... well, I think you can understand why I thought you were talking about something else.

I did look in the source code, by the way. For the game pages. And it wasn't there. My troubleshooting experience tells me that if there's a spammy link that shows up on a page for one person but not for another, that it's almost certainly because of spamware.

BTW: That's an insidious and vicious way to try and get your Italian Charms site to show up first on Google. Might be good to also report them to Google, once the links have been disabled. Or maybe leave them in but redirect them to their biggest competitor....

It's not in the game pages, for the last time. It's in the forum pages.

This seems sort of related to what I wanted to post about. I was just wondering whether it's possible to have skins for cantr so some of us can use it in crowded places without attracting too much attention with the colours. For example, you don't want to attract the attention of your supivisor/school teacher/boss/whatever while checking up on cantr.

I couldn't find it but if it's still there, this could be really bad. That might be what's guiding those bots to our forums. They run a search and it's like "*sniff* Hmm, I've been here before! *marks*" You say it's in the forum code?

There's a quite long development process in progress, which should result in ability to create skins for Cantr.

Para gustos, colores: each person has different taste; there is infinite colors; don't try to find the best solution, there are thousands.

Skins, skins, skins, skins....

Just offer different skins and a easy way to install it.
Each one will choose his/her colors.

I would like to have a white background with black and blue text (no one would tell you that you are playing).

Thats because this was fixed over a year ago - Our current s/w is the most up to date for the forum with all the recent security fixes. Bots also don't tend to use code like this to identify forums - they tend to use exactly the same tools you'd use - search engines such as google.
