An extended dreamwalk with your spirit guide, or other deep meditating trances, would do the trick.
Practice for a couch potato competetition.
Play the "I'm mad so I'm not talking to you game," for a week.
Just a few I came up with...

Yes, I think RPing a time of stasis is a good thing. Most of my characters end up coming down with the sleeping sickness. I treat it as something that people constantly have to be wary of, but that for some people, they come out of it.
One of my chars explains that he needs to meditate and pray for religious purposes.
Others just get too caught up in their work to respond.
But there are some cases where I feel an OOC comment is warranted. If your character is a leader type and his/her sleeping is going to slow down an entire town, I think letting certain people know is a good thing. Otherwise IC conclusions can be drawn about your character that were really not intended by you. (ie: being considered a lazy bastard when really your char is a hard worker and you had to be out of town for a week.)

More important than Cantr? WHat could be more important than Cantr? *ignores the shouts of: "exams" and "relationships"*

That'll also get you taken care of.

I'm rarely away from Cantr, but if I was I'd just have my characters say they'll be asleep for a while. Players should be able to figure out that the player is gone and it's not the character being lazy.
If you're talking about GPA, the highest is 4, at least it is here. But, you could get over 4 (the absolute maximum being 5) by getting high marks in advanced or honors courses. 3.5 is good, but a GPA isn't all that great of an indicator, it doesn't tell if the person in question is taking super-easy classes or not.
(That was not directed toward west or anyone else. I, for example, am taking mostly easy and effortless required classes this year and have a GPA of 4.3 or something like that.)
