I know this story only because I intern at a news station and I'm not so sure how much it has been made to the public but recently Sony was sued by another company claiming that Sony stole their design and technology for the controller used on the Playstations. The suit went through the Federal court and the company won. The company wanted Sony to stop selling all the Playstations in the world as well as manufacturing the Playstations (this includes both 1 and 2 not sure if 3 counts). I don't think the judge has awarded any damages but that is what the suing company wanted.

I'm a big Playstation fan so I would hate to see Playstation go especially like this. Well, if you want a Playstation I would buy it now just in case especially the PS2 because it is only suppose to have a lifespan of 2 to 3 years.

Sony lost the initial lawsuit. They're going to appeal, I'm sure, and PS2s will not stop being sold until after the appeal. Most likely, they will settle with a licensing agreement to Immersion that will lower the profit margins of PS2s a little bit.

Hmm...interesting, but I never had a PS...don't want one. I'm sticking to X-box so I won't have those problems. :P

I currently own AND play :

Gameboy
Gameboy Advance
Gameboy Advance SP
Nintendo 64
Gamecube

Xbox

Playstation one
PS2

I don't think any little company will be able to not cave under the money Sony can throw at them to settle out of court. Playstations will be fine.

end of a playstation era

Postby MakeBeliever » Thu Apr 07, 2005 8:55 pm

I quite agree about the life of a ps2 mine lasted 11 months so i managed to get a new one on guarentee .
MY old faithful playstation one ive had for about 8 years and the only trouble i had was the middle bit that the cd sits on broke into about 3 bits, so the only thing i had at hand was nailvarnish and i stuck it back together with that and it still works like a dream hehehehe

Yep. Old School 64 all the way! That's all I got, besides the gameboy color (2), advance and SP... but those are portable.

Curse my dad for switching my modded ps for an unmodded one.

And curse me for buying a second hand ps2.

I've repaired my ps2 more then ten times now.

Too bad sont made the ps2 with cheap parts i would have gladly payed a 100 more for one that lasts more then a year.

Well you guys go ahead and play your lamestations. Peronally I like havng good grapics, quick load times and the ability to save to my harddrive. Sorry, I don't feellike paying 20 bucks for a memory card that holds something like... two game saves. e only thing I'm jealous of is your game library. Thats it. We have a better live system as well as controller. Having the annolog sticks not right next to each freakin other is sooo much better.
