(nudge)
The problem doesn't seem (from my limited experience) to have anything to do with whether you are at land or at sea, but rather whether or not you are within the english "zone". Thus some ships near the land are fine, others farther away are not.
The map graphic is an error (a small icon in Firefox), and I believe the problem is browser inspecific.
I've roleplayed it as some kind of "storm", like a heavy blizzard or the like. But man, this weather's gotta change!
Many non-english maps still missing

It does have to do with memory usage of the php process that creates the small map pictures from bigger files.
For a reason unknown to us, this sometimes exceeds an internal memory limit of PHP.
Doubling this limit didn't help either. That's not the solution we're looking for, anyway. We're looking for an explanation as to why this happens now and not on the old server.
The 'regional' character of this problem could be explained by the 'regional' character of the particular map files. The bigger map file for the Lad region may be smaller than the bigger file for the russian region.
We are aware that this creates an extremely difficult situation for many characters, especially for sailors, and we are looking for a solution.
