Suicide (Button/Pill/Mechanism/Etc)

Postby Yo_Yo » Sun Mar 13, 2005 11:06 am

Hows about a way to commit suicide? Nothing brings about total Drama then a suicide. And when I say a way to do it, I mean an easier way.

Stupid.

That would make it easyer for people to kill of unwanted chars that wind up in a bad place.

Highly abusable.

If there is a good reason for a suicide... just contact the PD. They respond fairly quickly in my experience, and they'll sort out character deletion for you.

Suicide fo characters should have a place in Cantr, but not such an abusable system.

If it's for RP effect, suicide should have the chance to be dramatic. Like "you see Bob kill himself with a sabre." after making a big "woe is me" speech. It just wouldn't be the same if you make a speech, then stand around for a few days until the PD kills you're character. And why don't we see messages when charcaters die from account deletion?

Yeah it will be abused, but that won't be any different than the spawn, sleep, and starve tactics that are going on now - and far less irritating too.

I like the idea of tying up a character slot as the trade off for suicide. That would probably be the best deterrence against abuse.

Message an online PD member that you want to kill a character but want to say the last words before the death. It worked with Dove. Or make friends with PD people then you can message them on YIM and cause a trauma with whining that your character can't take it anymore - sorry sparkle...

That might be an idea.

If a char dies.

A certain number of days must be waited before you might be able to make one again.

That idea has come up before...

And, as then, I am vehemently against it. Linking it to suicide might work, but being forced to wait for new characters will end up screwing over those who spawn in the middle of nowhere and die as a consequence. They would (through no fault of their own) be forced to wait for another chance.

yes, a delay before new characters can be created after one dies is still a really good idea. about 4 days maybe?

I mentioned this before a long time ago. I think it should jus tbe tied into death regardless if it's suicide or not. If you have 15 character spot sit should only effect those who are trying to get all their characters in certain places. I fyou make them wait a few days after death it would just be better off for newspawns who appear in places they don't want to be to move to a new area.

Look, it is quite hard to suicide even in RL, why should it be any easier in cantr?

Yep, it's hard, but it's usually immediate, especially if you choose a violent means. The gripe is that it takes too long to commit suicide and it's totally undramatic. If you choose character deletion, nobody's even going to notice when you drop down dead.

I'm all for providing for immediate and dramatic suicide- and for a message coming up, when somebody dies due to character deletion, come to that. The idea of tying up a character slot should work nicely to prevent abuse. I don't see what's wrong with that. That would remove the irritation of having suicidal newspawns slowly starving to death all over the place, indistinguishable from genuine players. If the time lapse between committing suicide and being able to get a new character was made the same as the the time-lapse for death by starvation, I don't see the problem. The effect for the player who chose that route would be exactly the same.

Also, I imagine that the staff have man better things to do than personally delete people's characters for them, so any system which reduces the necessity for that should be welcome.

My favorite character committed suicide. By pure chance, however.. he would have been killed anyway. He got knocked down to exactly 1% strength, and then droppped his food for the night.

A Commit Suicide Button

If someone doesn't want to play somebody thats there problem, better them gone than pester everyone else by nicking the towns notes and legging it.

Can't see any reason why we should force idiots who cant play properly to actualy play.

That would be good, as long as it goes through a second page just to confirm the action.
