Close Cantr down...

Postby Pirog » Tue Mar 08, 2005 8:44 am

I seriously suggest closing Cantr down until it runs smoother.

I'm having huge problems even logging in and have allready lost a 50 y/o that was very dear to me because I couldn't log in to defend him...

I completely agree. I haven't checked on most of my charries for over a week now, because it is becoming a burden to wait so long for things to happen.
Everyone is having these problems and as noted in the slowness thread, life in Cantr is grinding to a halt already. So why not stop it completely and make it fair for people who don't have the time or patience to wait hours on end to check their charries.

...and it is also very inviting for bandits and thieves to take advantage of the fact that people don't have time to check up on their characters...and it feels like that is an unfortunate advantage.

I think a lot of important people might even starve to death if the game isn't temporarily closed down.

I just spent all my 200 minutes and didn't even have time to check my characters through and re-assign them to gather food...

If you check the back end of the "slooooowness" thread, you'll find that Surly made exactly the same suggestion, and I completely agree. Right now, I think all my characters are going to survive until the make the transfer to the new server, but it's touch-and-go for some, and I don't want to find that all their friends have died in the interim, and that the towns they live in have been decimated. Too many old, active characters have died already. It has to stop.

I agree 100%. This is an annoying, boring waste of time right now. Please shut it down until the new server is up and running.

Also, please let us know when you do it, don't make us guess and have to check every day. When the new server is up please send out an email and post a message on the forum to let us know.

Much appreciated.

either freeze it or allow for more minutes until it is fixed. Currently i can only check 3 characters using the entire 200 minutes, and by check, I mean make sure they have food.

i have already lost three characters, two were among my favorites and were over 40.

Aye, the food and unable to defend factor of the unplayability of Cantr should give premise to lock/pause Cantr.

To anyone who has any authority, please please please please suspend the game until it has been fixed!

If this continues, those of us who survive will have to roleplay this as the massive extinction of the 1100's. . . Which might be fun, but this can't go on as it does.

So, please listen to reason. SHUT IT DOWN until it's fixed.

(excuse me if I sound rude, but I can't take it anymore!!!)

I must also add my voice to the petition for Cantr suspension, assuming that grinding it to a halt is possible without destroying everything.

My fear is that too many people will get fed up if this continues and let their characters die. If the game is suspended and updates on the server change are posted, it might ease everyone's worried minds.

Ouch.

Is it just me or does someone else think it's already turning into a better direction? I don't count the time it takes to load a page but for a couple of days now it hasn't gotten jammed but the page eventually comes up, even if it takes minutes.

I wouldn't want characters to die because of this slowness but if we would be required to shut the game down for days, maybe over a week, and then one or two days for the server update, how many people would still be here when the update is done?

There are active people. In some places I don't even notice anything strange. I really hope there's another way and the update can be done soon without having to shut down the game before that for no purpose other than keeping sleepers alive.

Load times seem to worsen and get better, worsen and get better.

Sometimes it is manageable, sometimes it is plain annoying.

Hmm, perhaps the suspension of food consumption or something? *shrugs* Now that I think about it, I'm kinda split on it.

If you have enough time and patience, it is doable, but it does give an unfair disadvantage to those who don't (and many of those are the sleepers, as Seko brought up).

I currently have no major problem... I'm still able to check all my chars(eight) even though it is longer.

But, since most here are suffering, I see this a problem and it something probably should be done, and suspending Cantr is probably the best idea.

If you have to put it down for a week then I seriously hope the people behind the game do what they can to use that time trying to fix what they can. I mean it can't be just lots of action happening and lots of new players, this slowness came quite suddenly with no obvious reason. Maybe there's some unnecessary code loop somewhere repeating itself over and over again and consuming the bandwidth? Just freezing the game is a temporary solution that fixes nothing, only stops more damage from happening. Imagine what if the game was started again and it would still be as slow? And yet you had wasted a week or more waiting for it to get better. I think freezing eating and animal attacks for a while would stop people from dying, ok that doesn't stop people from attacking each other since such breaches can be expected, I'm sure people are keeping an eye on such behaviour.

Suspending eating and animal attacks would be just as good as shutting it down, I guess. However, I would rather everything be paused temporarily. I know it's hard to think about no Cantr for two weeks, but to me, there's no Cantr right now.

All in all, something has to be done. I don't think just letting the game run as if nothing was wrong is a good idea. Right now, it's more annoying than fun. Way more. Just please, do something to remedy this. :(
