Is there some guide to tell the difference between the various boats/ships?
I can visualize a bike, a tandem bike, a rickshaw, etc. But darters and rakers and soarers stretch my imagination.

I was under the impression that all I could find out in the game is how much they are carrying and maybe how fast they go. But I'm referring more to the appearance. How many sails, the rigging. I'm guessing that the Creator had certain real boats/ships in mind when he used those terms?
Also, regarding boats versus ships. Here is what Cecil Adams (the Straight Dope guy) had to say:
"Well, we could get technical, I suppose. Among sailing vessels, the distinction between ships and boats is that a ship is a square-rigged craft with at least three masts, and a boat isn't. With regard to motorized craft, a ship is a large vessel intended for oceangoing or at least deep-water transport, and a boat is anything else.
But that's too much to remember. Try this: ships have to be big enough to carry boats, and boats have to be small enough to be carried by ships.
There are exceptions, of course..."

I think that works well, your definition. Of course, I believe longboats are dockable by even smaller vessels, as one of your exceptions. I think the requirements needed for a boat can give you a general clue in to what the vessel is composed of and how large it will be, comparatively. Now, how you want to roleplay sailing is up to you- as you don't actually spend cotton cloth on sails (as of yet) and so you can assume you sail without sails from that. But then again, it's not like we make oars for our ships...but I think the rp should just be kept reasonable, if you are trying to describe your boat. If it's a longboat, it's not gonna have a jet engine.

Use Google to get an idea. Everything in Cantr is derived from objects, animals and whatever as can be found in the real world.
Just be carefull with what information you use in the game. For instance, it is okay to have you character knowing what a darter looks like. It is not okay to have your character knowing how to make steel. That is something your character has to find out in game.

On that Google thing... if, per chance, you do find out on google don't say:
"OOC: I googled the (whatever it is) and I found out that it is used for (whatever it does)"
Um... someone did that, or a couple people... speaking of which, should I report that?

Just because you're older, smarter, stronger, more talented... doesn't mean you're BETTER.

If it is annoying you, send the character an OOC private whisper. The less public OOCing the better. If the player continues to make annoying messages in the future, email the Player's Department at players@cantr.net

Personally, I find it questionable...but I think a general idea of what the item looks like from Google is helpful for roleplay. I don't think they need to OOC anything, though.
