Postby Wizkey » Mon Feb 21, 2005 11:37 pm

I just started today, and can't seem to get anything to happen (digging, farming, talking to people etc.)

Does anyone have any specific tips for getting started? I'm looking forward to getting started, please help me.

Well, the Cantr FAQ in General Support is good. Otherwise, you can ask me or any other people more specific questions if no-one IC is helping you.

It is quite easy when you get the hang of it... then youb get addicted...

Okay.

I can tell that you need resources to be able to make things, but it seems that when i dig for stone the percentage finishedstays at 0.0%. Any advice?

Patience.

Your project will advance once every game hour (3 RL hours). Cantr is a slow-paced game... try talking to people to pass the time. Depending on how long your project is, the amount done will get higher every time.

Ahhh, that helps alot, thanks!

About talking to people ....

Most don't answer me? Should I be patient with that as well? Also, is there any rude or undesirable things I should steer away from in the beginning?

There is a good chance that other people are offline right now... not everyone is online all the time (unfortunately  ). If you say something, wait a while for a response. They could be ignoring you... but it is more likely to be that they are not online right now. That'll change.

Depending on where you are of course... *glares at irritating silent areas*

Depends which character you ran into...

Yeah, but seriously if you need more help, PM me.

*shakes his head*

This really isn't surly enough for a landmark post...

Just don't pick things off from the ground, don't go into buildings without permission, and don't hit people, and your char should be okay. (unless you wound up in some place with really weird laws)

Oh, and reading the laws for whatever town you spawn into would be a good idea too.

Thanks ... ooops, I already picked things up off the ground *embarrassed* why is that wrong? Isn't that a good way to aquire resources? In most games i've played, finding things on the ground is how you have to get stuff.

Is this game different?

Better drop them and apologize. Quick. :D Those things probably came from somebody else's project or were dropped when somebody died. Picking stuff like that up is usually considered stealing (same reason you shouldn't go into buildings, it's common thief behavior).

Depending on where your char spawned, you may or may not be in big trouble... (That's why it's best to read the laws before doing anything in a town you're unfamiliar with.)

They're lying! Steal it all! Grab the iron, asap!

Maybe you should only take what you can get away with. Some places don't care if you take food and excess things, but others will have you killed. My suggestion; don't hit everyone in town and ask IC what kind of things would be good for a newspawn to make. And oh, one more thing: JOIN MY DARK ARMY... Its high time someone unleased an unprovoked holy war!

hmmm, I see. This game is different.

Okay ... I'll return the stuff, I didn't know it was someone elses.

It'll take me a while to get used to this game I think. But I think it has an amazing potential to be very rewarding!

It's a very addictive game. :)

You can learn a lot from just observing, so to begin with, I'd suggest saying (in character) something like, "Hi, I'm new to <Wherever>, blah blah blah." start growing about a day's worth of food, and then walk away from the computer for awhile to give people time to respond.

If you don't know what kind of foods are good to eat (there's a difference between healing and regular food) ask that in character, too. Always be polite. (You'll need to if you've already gone and broken a couple of laws...)

Chances are someone may even give you a little food to start off with, but don't count on it and don't beg.
