Unique Items

Postby Cookie » Thu Feb 10, 2005 4:15 pm

Aside form naming on houses and vehicles nothing a character does in Cantr can actualy leave a mark, I had the idea that there might be a sort of way of leaving something behind. For example if you were the owner of a sword once forged and owned by a famous character you would want to prove it wouldn't you. This could also give more pace to ideas such as religions where artefacts could be sought after (a holly grail sort of thing). Also giving someone a meaningfull item would have greater meaning, for example Jim gives Helena a ring which his freind thirty locations away gave him.

I would guess these items would have to take some making, otherwise there would be to many and it would take away the 'special' facter. Using things like gold, diamonds would help this.

or perhaps being able to engrave messages on objects would achieve this?

think the creation of a statue would be good idea for this, so you could ingrave something on it.

How about... edible potato figurines? Gahak is sorta doing such according to his journal, it's so nasty to be locked up with no materials to start a project with.

I would like unique items, is possible, however they are implemented.

Now, I have been thinking about the idea of a statue (during my Latin class if you must know). I would like there to be a way to make a statue with a linked dynamic naming system. What I mean is:

You see: a statue of a man in his twenties.
Or if you have met Fred in game and given him his name, you would recognise the statue. i.e.
You see: a statue of a Fred.
Or if someone points at the statue and says "That's Fred" You can change the name, so when you see Fred...
You see: Fred.

The only problem is the old aging thing... A statue of Fred when he was in his twenties wouldn't really resemble Fred in his seventies as well. ALthough, as far as I know, Cantrians don't age. So no problem.

Also, is there a way that could be implemented that would require a minimum stone to be used in one go? What I mean is if the project required 10000g of stone, that all 10000g of stone must be used at once. That would stop thousands of unfinished statues.

Just my thoughts on statues...

I really like that idea - especially with the dynamic naming involved...

There's a thread on the subject if you wish to resurrect it...

I personally would also like to be able to inscribe everything with a message or number or text of some kind, and perhaps being able to scrub out existing messages and re carve over the top, so like "Inscription: the inscription has been defaced, over the top ["nothing"/ the new message] has been inscribed"

Or to make the programing of this easier, you could have the names carved on the bottom. Or on a plaque.

But I think objects would be better, since they can be moved around. I'm imagining crusades across oceans to try and recover holy relics, now that would make the game (more) interesting.

Most definately, I love the idea of that kind of personalisation.

Isn't that very much a matter of faith?

If so, it's probably best to avoid discussing it.

although after this length of time, the question shouldn't be *is* there one, but *was* there one, because after a couple centuries it may not have survived.

One can not be Christian but still not be an aetheist, cookie. Oh, and by the way, Da Vinci Code was a good book.

Anyway, back on topic, it seems simplest just to have the option of engraving.

I've already been discussing the ability of implementing a statue, or gravestone type object that will have either just a message or a title. If it's just a title, then we can implement these items right now with current programming standards. However, if we're to add a message, then we would need to somehow link the ability to writing a note on an object (Does that make sense?)

As for naming objects, that is a good idea, however I'm not aware if it's currently possible to do. Okay, yes, yes it is, what am I saying? But with current programming standards, ideally, deterioration. With this in the game on objects, such as weapons, I don't know what would happen if the object had a name. But it's something to try out, it sure is!
