Cantr Afterlife

Postby TatteredShoeLace » Mon Feb 07, 2005 1:38 am

I haven't had a char die yet, but I think that if they have unfinished business they can be a ghost. And Cantr Heaven, where Jos can pick and choose all of the loved characters...And all the pirates can go to a place where their boats spring leaks and everyone in town is awake and has a sabre ready...

6 posts when you wrote that...

I'm guessing you've never been a pirate, just on the reciveing end. They're not so bad when they loot and don't massacare.

Don't knock it till you try it. It's a very exciting lifestyle. You never know when someone will have a sabre ready ...

You may be surprised to know just how successful my pirate is. And like I've said, I just don't post too much.

perhaps one of your characters could start such a belief.
i've never heard much talk in game about an afterlife.

There was some discussion about this some time ago... I remember a suggestion that a topic be put here in the forums where people could RP dead characters - like some kind of Cantr limbo - I still like that idea...

i think it was suggested that there be a seperate cantr world with different mechanics where the dead characters could hang out and interact.
i think it'd be a little weird. i'm not sure if i like it.

Plus, then you would have like 20 chars, 15 live, and 5 dead.
Just because you're older, smarter, stronger, more talented... doesn't mean you're BETTER.

Nah, I'm sure communicating with the dead can be arranged through the forum. After a while of being dead you get used to it and move on. Besides it's the living you mostly want to talk to. It would be cool if the dead could give a word back in visions and apparitions, but now it can only be called a breach. :( In a way you keep hoping with your dying characters that there really was an afterlife, and after you can't gather your courage to talk to the other dead ones in an in-gamey fashion, you just drift somewhere.

Approaching the afterlife is a tricky thing. Cantr tends to have its fair share of objective "i'll believe it when I see it" types, so religions gaining popularity with an afterlife idea are going to be a tough sell.

More than once I've considered the strange apparitions on the roads to be ghosts. (eg: You're walking down a path and you see "a man in his twenties use some wood on making a hammer.") It's impossible to make a hammer on the road. You try to speak to him, but there's no one there... This to several of my characters has been considered an apparation. And I kinda like that idea.

The glitches in the game are the signs of a greater force at work. That force of course really being Jos & Co. but to our Cantrians, that's their creator showing them signs that he exists.

My guess is it was a guy on a bike who just zipped straight past you. :)

Whos to say that there isn't a Cantr afterlife and all the dead characters are actualy having a bit of fun without us  ermm, I guess not!

No. Piers Anthony is the only one having fun, all the others are in his dungeons...
