I have a knife specifically designed for topic hijackers.

Then again, you're probably too tired too use it, so how frightened should we be? :P

Yeah, I'm sure everyone fell off their chair laughing to those comments.
Can we please get back on topic?

I have seen it on my activity list and it also shows who is resting on it - this was for a chair, but It would seem logical that it does for cots also

Well, I've already put in my two cents on this, but I'll reiterate. Yes, I think there should be a way to rest without furniture, because realistically no one is going to go a year without sleeping while they try to build a bed. There. On topic. Happy? :D

Also, I think sleeping in general shouldn't take too terribly long. A RL day is 24 hours, and at the most we sleep for a third of that (8 hours, if we're lucky and don't have work or school in the morning...). I think Cantr should reflect that; none of this 'hit a couple of animals and drag a note, sleep for a week' stuff. If anything Cantr should require less rest than real life, to make up for the fact that a "sleeping simulator" is no fun to play.

(Plus, even if you've been farming for a year...is it really such hard work? You plant, you water, maybe spend an hour or two weeding every day, and then you pick the crop when it's ready. Even if you spent every single moment staring at the ground watching your carrots grow, it's not like it's actually all that tiring....)

Well, obviously the ammount of sleep required should be related to what type of sleeping surface you have. Or at least that's what I'm assuming.

(and yes, I thank you for rescuing my thread) :)

I slept in cot in cantr... and in ten real life hours, from about 4/7 of a bar, it went down to practically zero.

I find that very much irrelevant. And I don't like the possibilty that I may have to tell my characters to rest during the time I am online to play... They spent plenty of time not doing anything, so they could rest then. THis could seriously hamper gameplay...

Do people seriously think that everyone has always slept in beds? When you consider how long it takes to build beds (with the tools and materials required as well as actual build time) do you think people would have spent half a year to build a bed to sleep in? No, they would have slept on the floor covered by a cloak or similar. And they rested ok. Admittedly not as comfortable, but they slept none the less. Beds as they are would have been a luxury - not a necessity. I challenge people to sleep tonight on a coat on the floor for a week or so. It may not be the most comfortable, but you can still rid yourself of tiredness.

I stick by the point I made on some other thread... things need to take less time to build for tiredness and item rot to function. Currently the characters are fighting a losing battle against the programming, and that isn't how it should be.

I have to say I am slightly disappointed at the way beds have been implemented right now... but I'll keep quiet to see how it pans out before I say things I'll regret later.

I was just replying to someone who was hoping that it heals tiredness fast... and it does.

Hence... we need automatic sleeping
Your character, when a project finishes, automatically 'sleeps' on the ground - you can then canecl the project when you log in...

This still means that if you keep you character really busy, they'll get really tired, and, if you have the luxury of a bed (or chair) you'll have to start that project yourself...

i'm glad that although tiredness goes up fast, it also goes down fast,
but i think it would be better if both were slower.
this system requires characters to get rest on a daily basis. while this may be a more realistic system, it requires a large amount of micromanagement. i don't have the time nor the reliability of schedule to check my characters at the right times everyday. i can't make such a system work well for me, and i'm sure this is true for a lot of people.

plus i still support adding the ground to sleep on.
and also automatic sleeping would be nice.
why not kill too birds with one stone and have the recovery rate from standing around be near enough to the furniture recovery rates? (like maybe 1/2 to 2/3 as effective as the least effective furniture item) right now the recovery rate just standing around is 0. that's just wrong.

Ahem. I mean the effectiveness of the cot is irrelevant to the argument, not your post Nixit. I apologise for that.

And hallucinatingfarmer, I agree with that idea. That is exactly the way I would like tiredness to be implemented.

kroner's idea would be good too

Basically - there needs to be a way for a character's tirdness to decrease when they're not active without the intervention of the player

otherwise, it becomes unfair to those who can't log in regularly...

Well, I'm glad to hear energy recharges relatively quickly anyway. I wasn't sure as none of my characters had a cot to try it out with.

I'm curious though, can somebody clarify for me whether to two and four percent recovery rates still apply?

But either way I agree with the people who've suggested automatic sleep. If you're not doing any work, then what exactly are you doing? Surely you're getting at least some rest. I don't even think a "project" is really necessary in that case; maybe characters should just recharge 1 percent (or something) for every hour they're not working. (and even that I think is pretty conservative, but you'd want to keep it where the cot had a significant advantage.)

And that is what I think it should really come down to. Furniture should give your chars an advantage in regaining their energy, just like vehicles give them an advantage in travelling. But there's no way they should actually be necessary for staying alive.

EDIT: Whoops, just logged in and read the new blurb. Guess that answers some of my questions. :)
