Whispering

Postby Neelix » Fri Jan 14, 2005 11:15 am

Why are so many people whispering?

Is it to seem important? Or mysterious? Or just plain egocentric?

It's different in different cities I think, but I think people should whisper less, because it does not allow other people to cooperate or help you out.

Maybe you should ask them, let them know you have a problem with it.

I did, but when I noticed it with one char, I see that it is a tendency that is happening all over Cantr... So was just wondering why people do it.

Usually it is either secretive, personal, business/gv't related, etc.

Just like a private conversation in real life, we don't always want people eavesdropping.

Everyone is getting jiggy. Be glad they can't have kids yet.

*Giggles uncontrollably* Would you rather watch nonstop cooing than see people whispering? It would be so easy to stop sending the messages privately but then people would soon start complaining.

The one time I wanted to whisper for privacy reasons, it was with my mute character, so I just wrote a note.

I usually whisper in large towns, because it's easier than having a ton of cross-conversation confusion: "Oh, were you takling to me, or the other Dave?"

Funny though that 2 of my chars end up in towns where the main mode of conversation is whispering. It happens like 5 times a day that someone speaks out loud.

I think it would be better to keep the "cooing" to a whisper. I don't mind when 2 peoples say sweet things occationally, but..I know some conversations are just better kept to a whisper, behind closed doors, on a boat...etc where others can't hear... I agree that people would soon be complaining if these conversations were "shared" with the town.

Sure sure, I completely agree on that.

But for instance, one of my characters is cooperating with two others. Now the three of use want to strike a deal with several different persons for trading. Now all these other persons are whispering which makes it really dificult to cooperate and align things in everybody's best interest.

So while I agree that the sweet-talk should be done in whispering, I'm a bit afraid that it is becoming people's main mode of conversation.

When my characters whisper it's because they're talking business, the conversations aren't extra interesting, they just don't pertain to anyone else except the person my char. is talking to.

The only way I know for more than 2 ppl to talk bussiness, is to enter a building with no one else in it. Then you all can speak aloud and no one else can hear the conversation, thus keeping your bussiness to yourselves and not involving the whole town.
One of my *murdered* ( may they all rest in peace :( )charactors only whispered to one person when she was younger. She was begining to open up and speak a little to others, she was just shy and didn't want to say anything that everyone could hear.
