stops docking because the target is moving...

Postby The Industriallist » Sun Dec 12, 2004 9:11 am

I was trying to dock with a ship I saw, and got:

<time>: <Ship> stops docking because the target is moving.

Curious...does this mean that I can't dock with the moving ship, and am not in fact moving towards it? Or does it mean that for some reason I have to klick the docking button again every hour?

There are no preventitive measures to have your boat continuouisly follow the other boat trying to dock to it, so instead, docking is cancelled if the other boat moves.

It's good though. Even if they put in a way that, when a boat gets too far away docking cancells, there's always the possibility that it takes a VERY long time (And you end up wanting to stop, but you can't cancel docking...) or you both go the same speed, and you'll never be able to stop unless they turn around or dock themselves.

There could be an option as to how many times you want to retry docking until you give up because the boat just keeps moving, and you haven't gotten close enough to dock? Might work. (Ex: You're trying to dock onto a boat, it moves, docking is cancelled, but you have docking on repeat so it automatically tries again. It keeps looping until you dock, or your repeating amount is expired.)

So, that means that I am in fact moving towards the targetted ship when I do that? Not just drifting?

Yes. It's just like land. You move toward it and dock on it. Well, for sure you move toward it if the boat is still. If it moves, I believe you still move forward even if it cancells your docking procedure, but don't quote me on that, I'm not sure.
