ARE CURSES POSSIBLE IN CANTR?

Postby Sparkle » Sun Dec 05, 2004 8:16 pm

This just seems really weird to me. No bug, no mistake, no explanation.

I can't say much, but something is going on in Seatown. One minute the leaders/higher authority figures From Seatown Garden or active and involved in everything....the next they are dead!!

I mean this has to be more than just a coincedence! If it was just 1 or 2 people I would have let it go as coincedence, but no. It has been 4 people! 3 of whom were very active! Maybe a player has put a curse on Seatown Garden.....maybe a character did it.......What ever the reason, my charrie is sending word and telling anyone who is a leader/higher figure there to beware!

Has anything weird like this happen to anyone else in game? I mean, something that wasn't a bug?

Sure...see the ongoing mess in Gregor Mac Gregor's malfunctioning brain with regards to most of his old friends plus his wife dropping dead.

Now, I think I can safely say that this has nothing to do with IC things, and (except Jessamin) has nothing to do with bugs, mostly...it's just that formerly active, serious players do drop out from time to time. Sometimes often. And probably more so now when they have to decide whether Cantr is still worth playing.

Also could be some CR unsafeness going on, with that many leaders dying at once. Can anyone comment on whether any of them had common players?

On another note, yet still on topic: The Stormbringer, in it's own right is a curse to the KDS region. Built by Rory MacGregor to attack Krif, then commandeered by Calico Jack to pester the Coastal Towns, and then in his spirit, to a less successful extent, the infamous Yahsmina also participated with him, until being taken down. (if my facts are right, and they ought be)

People died all around. One said that it might be because those people had not eaten since the change (living on healing food perchance?). And maybe some big player quit. Actually... I.. think I might have an idea who it is unless I'm totally mistaken - had been inactive for long and threatening to quit every once in a while.

This could be the case with the first two (Queen Noel and Chief) who just dropped dead at the same time, but the other two I serious doubt it.

I do believe it was mostly a case of everyone inactive and without food dying at the same time. Remember the day of the change, everyone's damage from hunger was reset to 0 on the new meter. And, with the inability to easily see who is dying of hunger, few are being fed anymore.

I really think we need the working smiley faces back again.

Thank you Sociologist. You got what I was saying. :)

Now for those of you who are still trying to catch up. All of these people died before the changes except for the last one, but even she fell asleep before the changes.

Which is mainly the reason I think it's a curse. There was no cause for it, it just happened all of a sudden, for 3 of them, with no warning.

This can be explained simply by the changes.

Some people quit, therefore their characters have died.

I know I had a few characters who relied on healing their lost strength with healing foods, as oppose to eating regularily. MANY people died in the exact time it takes for someone to starve, since the changes started. The fact that people who quit took a while, maybe near identical timeframe to quit, coupled with the waev of hunger deaths, is what explains the s***load of recent deaths, pardonez ma francais.

Industriallist's comments seem to have gone ignored:

That's exactly what I was thinking, had the 3 that you mentioned powerful characters died at the same moment? (unsubscription) I remember Siom Forest North losing 2 of its most important people as it was trying to build up a while back, which caused my poor (well really rich) character's death  due to the power/security vacuum.

So what I was getting at is even if these powerful people had unsubscribed, but had breached the CR, it should be kept on file in case they rejoin, so they can be informed of what they shouldn't go about doing this time around.

 Curses? Sorry, there are no real curses IRL or in Cantr, only people that make unfounded correlations between unassociated events.

First, let me say that neither Noel Gaius (excuse the spelling, names are not my forte) nor Breen were rulers of Seatown Garden, contrary to a few people's beliefs. They were queen / king of a nomadic group. Lucy and the other longtime citizens of Seatown Garden never considered them leaders. They were treated with respect, sure, but they had no real authority. Seatown Garden has never had any true ruler and it will stay that way, at least as long as Lucy has any voice in the matter. Recent events are nothing more than a coincidence. The person in question hasn't actually died, correct? (Don't answer that. ;)) People "fall asleep" all the time. Does Lucy need to go visit Seatown and prove the supposed curse wrong? If she had any inclination to go there, I would not worry. Are you sure you people in Seatown aren't in a plot to take over Seatown Garden, starting with the "leaders"? (j/k)

There is no way the person in question in seatown died of hunger. I personally made sure that that person had the same amount of food as my character did. Mine still has plenty of food left. Not to mention that I warned the her before we left the garden that this has happened to all our leaders in the same place to be carefull. So the only other reason IF she is dead *still hoping shes not* is that the player quit.

I have tried to explain that one myself. But it just seems to be what everyone is thinking. I got a note to deliever and it says I am the leader of the garden. Now I know he keeps falling into these things against his will but this time was a certain Seatown leader that said this. And its not ture at all. *screams* He just wanted to be a bounty hunter and live the life of fame and glory. Not lead anyone. But he feels like he has too and does what is best for everyone else.

-to the PD- Don't know how much is to much so edit if you feel necessary.
