Please... less OOC in game...

Postby formerly known as hf » Fri Dec 03, 2004 12:58 am

Not like me to rant so much... but here goes...

I've seen this in a few places recently, but today was just too much...

The odd OOC comment is ok - no problem. But if an OOC comment is addressed to one person please get your character to talk to that one person it just breaks the flow of reading...

And anyway, I thought the fineries of CR breaches were to be discussed on this forum, not in game?

I find it hard to discuss such issues solely on the forum...how do I know that they ever even read the stuff on the forum?

I understand that it becomes irritating with OOC comments when they are totally pointless, but some people seem to react much too strongly to OOC comments...it isn't that hard to put a blind eye towards them, because they really aren't that common anymore.

ooc comments

Postby wietse » Fri Dec 03, 2004 5:02 pm

my opinion:

if there was a proper explanation of how the game works somewhere on the cantr website there would be much less ooc: comments in game.

lots of ooc comments seem to relate to simple questions such as how do i eat, or what does this button do...

My opinion: all the people who moan about there being insufficient guidance on the front page - repeatedly, without stopping - should perhaps try and do something about it.

i would, but i can't because of 2 reasons!

- I dont know how things work! (i suppose only the programmers know)

- I am not allowed (some people think its against the capital rule)[/quote[/quote]

You knwo what is annoying? When someone replies to you ooc when you talk ic, just to make you stop asking (because the character doesn't know the answer).

I believe that if OOC is needed for a new spawn then it should be done as a "whisper" My charrie had this happen recently, Everyone was getting upset at him and it was getting worse. My charrie whispered, explained briefly what OOC was and that he needed to check the objects on the ground, read notes, check location to see what is available, and if he spoke of things non-exsistant to the area, Cantrains would think he was crazy or would try to hurt him to shut him up, but I remained IC as doing so to the best of my abiltiy, The player responded with a thank you and stopped the silly chatter. :D I know it is a pain to do so, but it is a faster way to stop it and causes less stress for all involved.

I agree. When i was new this is the way it was done for me. In a respectful personal way. I found it rude to tell a new spawn, "Hey shut up with that. We don't know what your talking about." Then began explaining to them ignorantly out loud in OOC. That is embarrassing and uncomfortable so I find it quite simple to take them aside and whisper what it is they need to do. Alot of people continue playing when it's done that way. I know I did. :P

Agreed — whenever you go OOC, just address the one person — the rest needn't be disturbed.
Or, even better: say something to the person IC for all to hear, and whisper to them OOC just how they should interpret that, and what it is they should do. Then the 'clueless' person can reply IC for all to hear, making it clear that she didn't know the local customs, or something similar.... The rest will only see an IC exchange that makes sense, and explains the change in before/after behaviour; and only the minimum of people need deal with any OOC.

I'd rather see a noob ask an ooc question about the game than see people telling others "OOC I'm not going to be on this evening."

i figured out how to play this game all by myself :P ... but of course that was a long time ago when it was simplier  so I could see why so many noobs are doing that OOC chatting, most if it is just trying to figure out how to play, ect... that I don't mind to much but I ussually just tell them to come here to ask their questions when I encounter OOC questions...
