Automated messages

Postby SekoETC » Fri Dec 03, 2004 4:13 am

1) Room description. Can be changed by anyone in the room. Will be posted privately to every person entering to give them a summary of what's in there. You can set it to empty if you don't want it but it could be useful for example making rules more visible (nailing them to the door), making special situations more visible (now only dependant on rp and talking, if no one is around then new arrivals cannot notice things that would be obvious were the room in real life) or just personalizing the room description (you can have resources neatly piled up or thrown around the room - on the objects page there is no difference). For example if someone is rp:ing to be sleeping in an empty room it would be nice to inform a person entering that the other one is lying on the floor asleep and not listening.

2) Auto speech. Because I'm in a situation where only way to communicate is through notes and eventually getting tempted to enter rp to those notes, but they are still some sort of paper, and no one can hear what's on paper. So when someone enters the room your character says the thing saved in the memory. It will only be said once, after that it's gone. (- Prevents us from creating totally automated characters that keep repeating the same thing they were programmed to do. "Welcome to Corneria!") Useful for for example guards, or people that tend to jump when someone comes in, people who know what they want to say but cannot be online to say it and cannot go out and so on.

Hmm, I like the first one. That could be really use for. Especially for locked harbours. As soon as you enter them you get a message stating what to do and what not to do, welcomeing you to the town. :)

Uhh, #2 would never happen, I bet. That would seem like the person would be automated completly, and unplayed perhaps, it might get annoying, and it would seem NPCish - and with no one an NPC, it just doesn't fit.

Yeah, but you would still need to login to get a new message, since the character would react only once.

Even still... that would be a lot like the Automatic retaliation that some want. You know, attack back when you're attacked. It's just not right, you're supposed to play the game, not have the game play for you...

I don't mind #2 but whether it passes thru Jos or not is another question, and not that it was known at the time but #1 is (I think) accepted.

I think I should put my two hundred thousand cents.....

I think there should be a button on everything, Like, on a sledghammer, so that you can put that sledghammer in the top-right corner of the room, unstead of just in the middle. It has great uses for Designing and things.
