Sleep

Postby Pirog » Wed Nov 24, 2004 4:27 am

As it is now I assume you regain energy faster by just standing idle, and that rate can be elevated by staying indoors etc.

That is good, but I would like to suggest a faster method of recovering energy, by sleeping.

When you sleep you should regain energy at a much faster rate than standing idle, but in return you don't see any events and people can't communicate with you.
(There should be a function to wake someone up though)

This would not only open up for a bit more organized ways to increase your energy, but also for interesting things like Inns, where trevellers can sleep in a locked room without having to worry about theft etc.

Easiest way to wake someone - talk to them in private. Or slap them in the face but that's kinda brutal. And being asleep should be visible in the description if not even in the People listing, since now it's pretty hard when you rp it and have to state that you're sleeping every time someone steps in.

I agree that it should be obvious for others when you are sleeping.

It could make up for some great RP moments too...a thief sneaking past a sleeping guard etc. :)

Don't forget to add failsafes....like being attacked instantly wakes you up...ofcourse, but i rather say it then have it assumed.

How about pretending to be asleep?

But it should be more like a project, because I can jsut picture thieves pretending to sleep right after a huge theft sort of as an alibi.

Failsafe.. Yes that's what I meant about the slapping, of course it would refer to other attacks as well. But it would be stupid if someone wrote a long private line to a sleeper then tried to post and got an Error: cannot whisper to a sleeping person. Well then they would hit the back button, copy the text, go back, kick the person awake and post them.

Yes, that would of course be necessary :)

Ah, I really like these ideas :) ... Especially also your idea about the Inns.

If they can "board" objects to sleep on, beds, hammocks and the like, then we could see that there is "a man in his twenties sleeping (MacDonalds inn (bed))" and could aslo see if someone is seeping with someone else, as you can see them both in beds...

and I still like hammocks for anywhere, especially boats, four post beds, and being able to get better rest than standing by sitting on chairs.
Reality was never my strong point.

I do think that with the slow characteristic of the game, and the inability of players to be on all the time, will make it very frustrating if you can't speak to someone who is sleeping. If your char needs to leave town, and you're not going to be able to get on for the next couple of days, but you can't leave because the char yours needs to talk to is sleeping........well, that's just an example of how it could become very frustrating.

I also thing, as I mentioned somewhere before, that if people can't see events while they sleep, they will all ask when they wake up "what's been going on?" I know I don't have time for my chars to constantly be answering that question, and the game would become more of a chore than a joy, whether mine answered or not. Of course, mine would want to know too, but because of how i feel, would not likely ask. And some of them will need to know.

Hey!! I already ask that.

How about some constant knocks...like 10 in the same hour...or someone passing notes to you more then once a day can cause you to wake up...just thinking of some failsafes...

Ah, so you're the annoying player who doesn't bother reading your char's event page. Please stop asking! I hate to ignore other chars, but mine just usually don't have the time to do your work for you. :x

Then add a window!!!

If you don't understand, some of my characters spend some time inside some buildings so don't know whats going on outside, and so they ask.

Ah, wouldn't windows be great? Sorry, my annoyance doesn't go out to those who have been inside, but rather to those standing in the centre of town with everyone else, and when they awake, they ask what's been happening. Irks me!!!

Okay, i'm done ranting. :P

Okay :)

Another, how about someone walking in and out (if in a room) like more then twice a day can wake you up.
