Thanks!

No offense to the player but it's a shame Novus Loreis didn't die sooner. His death just makes the loss of Coventina that much more tragic and unnecessary. Salt in the wound.
For what it's worth, I was amazed at Novus' ability to weasel his way out of things while still sticking to a snake oil salesman personality.

As an outsider to both areas - I never really understood some of the hype around Coventina to be honest, I never really saw anything in game that made me think of them as any different to any other player. I found Novus to be different , perhaps I was lucky enough to see him and Angelou in their prime all the time which was always entertaining but I got the feeling that Conventina should have died a lot earlier and just seemed to be acting like vending machine to pass the time of day.

So he was excellently RPed, is what I'm taking away from this. I agree, Novus was fantastic. If there were more characters like him, and Elyos too, a lot more people would still be bothering to check their chars.
I never got the sense Seko enjoyed playing Coventina the last few years, honestly. She said several times she was bored with her as well as her other chars, the ones she didn't actively hate anyway. Novus never seemed that way when I was around him, he's going to forever remain up there with Elyos in my mind as a character that created the kind of dynamic environment and RP opportunities for others that couldn't be found anywhere else in the game.
What's left is porn and potatoes, pretty much. :/ But this seems to be what people want, and a playstyle that's actively being enforced. Fumbling for the death by old age button anytime another character pokes at the comfortable status quo is the default reaction for some players (absolutely not singling Seko out here because it's not at all uncommon) and that's just one more reason the game is and will remain utterly stagnant.

Re: The Dead Character Thread
I don't think Marian is playing, but it is true I have been killing off a lot of my characters out of old ages when things got uncomfortable for them. The most obvious example was Offering's death, she had never had heart symptoms in her whole life, she was relatively youthful and full of energy. She decided to die out of spite, not to let the other guys win. I won't say bad guys, because the consensus seems to be that she was the villain in that story and deserved what happened to her. Later I ran into the guy who was the reason for her kidnapping and I enjoyed interacting with him, so I'm glad that he survived and she didn't. If she had killed him for trying to steal her boat instead of just amputating his foot, it would've killed a cool story arch. Sure she would've gotten out of it alive but she would've still been bored, getting rainbow lorikeets for other people without needing a payment. She would've been living for other people and not herself. Letting herself die was the one selfish thing she did in years.
As for Coventina, I most enjoyed trading with people who made it go smoothly and didn't raise a fuss if I didn't want to buy something when we were already overstocked, or if I needed to change the trade rates when they were outdated. Some people were like "you're scamming, you are required to buy this crap that I found laying around on the ground five towns over because I went through all the trouble of bringing it here". And usually she did, even though she knew they would hardly be able to use it or sell it. Some people were very disrespectful towards her, making her really appreciate the ones who called her Miss or Lady. Often young people had a sense of entitlement and that she existed there for their convenience. People should understand that if several people bring in 200k of limestone within a short time, that is going to affect the trade rates. Something that's gathered several kilos in a day is going to have the highest fluctuation in trade rate measured in grams, when measured in percentages, it's the small things like gold that have the highest true fluctuation. In order to be healthy, a system needs to adjust to its surroundings. For example, for the longest time Klojt was buying wood 350 grams a day because they had been told by travelers that both forests imposed a tax on gatherers that weren't citizens. She never had time to go there and check it out personally, or negotiate steady shipments from the forest government. Instead they relied on individuals going to gather wood, often on tandem bikes and rickshaws, after having purchased an axe and nothing more. They came back with a load and were able to make 171% profit. Good for them but only a few people were buying wood from Klojt because they knew they could get it cheaper if they just traveled a bit. Resulting in hundreds of kilos stacking up in storage. Eventually the price was shifted to 380 but that wasn't enough. The only way to get it up to 600 without making a loss selling the old stock was to introduce different buy and sell rates. This made certain people feel cheated and weakened the power of the Iron Klojt. Suddenly it was no longer a steady currency because you could no longer play the system, or playing the system required more work and adjustment. It doesn't matter that if people had brought in more wood at 600 and bought wood at the current sell rate, it would've constantly shifted the sell rate higher until it matched the buy rate. Some people decided to stop trading with Klojt altogether. I had another character on Treefeather who had been to Klojt and kept saying what an unpleasant place it was, even though he had traded with Emerald, not Coventina. A lot of people thought Emerald was too slow or inattentive and hated the whole town for that reason. Every time Coventina tried to delegate work, it backfired, leading her to believe that she was irreplaceable.
I was being encouraged by certain people to kill off Coventina during the day 5000 festival for the drama. They thought it would be great, and also a slap on the nose for the staff that kicked me out. But I didn't want to punish anybody. Even though she was miserable, I kept playing her. For a while Travis was her reason to live and believe in the future. It was a forbidden love due to the nature of their relationship, and that made it exciting. But he became sleepy and she felt like she was left alone in the world. She felt like she couldn't trust anyone. Kenja and Jin Jin were warning her about various conspiracies, that she probably wouldn't have noticed on her own if people hadn't been poisoning her mind.
Also back in history I found out OOCly about Bruce McInnis's plan to send people to sack Klojt and kill everyone but Coventina and Maveri. There's no telling what he would've done to them, and it would've certainly stirred things up. I felt anxious about it but had no way to react to it ingame. Later he just died and the plan fizzled. Coventina never found out of this threat. She used to believe most of the island respected her so when she started realizing that there were people out there that hated her, it came as a shock to her. If she had been given a chance, she would've done anything to change their minds and make them believe in her again. But people kept whispering to each other how much they hated her and mostly didn't say it to her face, so there was nothing she could do. She never even noticed a dip in traders despite all the people swearing never to come again after being mistreated.

Re: The Dead Character Thread
Appreciating realistical RP of a player and approving the way He/She playes that char are different things. Just like liking/diskiling a player and still liking their characters.
We've lost some memorable characters and players in last period. Comparing them is unfair because while some had regional importance some put their permanent marks in Cantria history.
About Coventina, I wish at least she could be retired with her own will and keep living happily in any place away from the stress she has been under. Anyway I can just hope this has been been a relief for her player and Klojt will have a great future.

Re: The Dead Character Thread
In her defense... Coventina ran the consistently largest city in the EZ, pretty much single handed.
I don't have equal accomplishments to back up any criticism of her. Ran a few, but I fell into the 'sleepy leader' trap too. She didn't.
Novus Lorus was interesting and conflicted, only those within his tighter circle knew well.
But his reign was short in comparison... did he even get into his sixties? A flash in the pan, but hardly comparable (imo) to an institution.
My char did not care for dloft... but I can see why some liked it... she also disliked klojt and working for the University.
Two different institutions, same revulsion.
She thought Coventina was awesome, but inaccessible when a trade was needed.
The self-appointed new regime would probably be just as disliked except for one very enjoyable and chatty char. Newspawns are well handled there.
Still, I think the facts of her record and her longevity make Coventina hard to compare to... If an impartial observer had nothing but the tenure to look at and the events within that time; who surpasses it? I can only think of one char in the past six years of my play... that char is still alive so I can't compare and contrast as this point.
As far as dead chars go...Coventina's was quite impactful. The others... only their legacy stands are a measuring stick. Ask in 5yrs.

Re: The Dead Character Thread
I have decided to un-sub because I have lost my motivation for playing due to multiple reasons
Anyways, time to say goodbye to my chars
Bob - The village idiot. He was a good guy with a tiny brain. He always mixed up names and accidentally insulted them, but almost everyone forgave him (except Raaj, which was the only person that Bob disliked). He spent is final years in Mirovash (Microwash) with his good friends Gaston (Baton), Mike and Sylvest (Syvel). He always had a weak hart for Suzie (Blue), but she insisted on staying in San D'oria (Sundooria). Bob was fascinated by other people's stories and always wanted to hear them. He was kinda my favourite character to play with.
Emma Lawson - The lovely lady from Seatown Gardens. She was in love with the man who took her everywhere since the day she has spawned, Jack Wintersteen. She followed him and looked for him when he was gone and he traveled along with her when she wanted to go somewhere.
Benjamin Davies - The guy from Guildport that lived in Kirinn. Had some good ideas for the future and wanted to change the community. He was part of a group of travelers along with his close friends Griffin, Glenda and Princess Avi. He was easygoing unless someone spoke about religion or the afterlife, which made him annoyed and rude.
William Fitzherbert - I was still looking for a purpose for this guy. He spawned in Shortinazy, traveled to Klojt, Seatown and Dragonloft but he never found a place to call home.
Acton Avery - The guy who spawned on a remote island far far away. With the help of Rosalyn and Halbarad he moved to Akypor. He briefly lived in the forest with Sweetberry Eclair, listening to gossip on the radio but finaly moved to Akypor and became a full citizen. Along with Mindy he was part of the City Services and was always helping her with chores for the city. He felt at home in Akypor, especially because it had the most devoted and enthousiastic leader he had ever seen, Cora Stoli.
If you knew any of those chars and want to tell me the aftermath of their deaths, please PM me

Re: The Dead Character Thread
Bob was simply lovely, sad I didn't interact more with him. I tend to dislike characters who act childish or mentally disabled, but this one was really funny to read, enjoyable and refreshing. Not ridiculous or exxagerated, but with the right amount of tenderness. The kind of char thar offers roleplay chances to others, too, and that's something I'd like to praise the player for. Sad to see him go, didn't meet the rest, but hope the player comes back to the green again someday.
