Weapon strength

Postby .::. MysticGötén .::. » Mon Nov 15, 2004 10:35 am

(sorry for posting 2 topics in such a short time but I didn't wanted to put 2 totally different topics in 1)

hi,
It seems that the power that a weapon has has decreased considerally.
(only tested it on animals so far)

Composite recurve bows (warbows) now have a maximum of 15%-16% strength against animals both weak as strong. It used to be around the 25%-27%

Crossbows now have a maximum of 24% strength against animals. This used to be around 40%. A big difference.

I wonder if this is normal for all the weapons or that it depends on the age and usage of the weapons. And that the weapons need to be repaired or something like that.

It seems a bit unfair that the making of weapons has become rather complicated and harder (especially for the crossbows) but their strengths is almost half of what it used to be.

Also in towns with strong animals such as elephants most weapons have become useless against them.

It seems widely agreed that even without tiredness, it has...

The strength of the weapons HAS decreased. The facts are there. I had documented strengths for some weapons that had been test over and over again. The bone knife did 9-10 dmg b4. but now does 4. don't tell me that's not a decrease...

But that would make Jos a liar, and even if I thought he would, what he said is backed up by multiple in game observations.

The weapons did not change, but the ability to use them properly has become dependent on more factors, resulting in an overal reduction on average. I now (few minutes ago) uploaded some changes that simply reduce this limiting effect, so weapons are not back up to what they used to, but they're by far not reduced as much anymore, and you'll discover later that the changes are not so bad.

But Judith was entirely correct - just to be sure ;) ...

That's good, if the weapon damage is about like it was before then tiredness factor wouldn't continue to cripple combat so much like it has the last two days.

So does that mean some power is back but you need practice with the weapons?...even though some of my characters were okay shots with crossbows.

Sorry, but they are still very much reduced against lions at least, and the changes there are very very bad indeed. We're talking 5-6 damage for weapons that used to do 22. So please keep tuning!

If there are skills I would want ways to train without attacking animals or other humans. Otherwise people would go around killing people just to get better, meaning that only really poor RPers and evil people would become skilled, while the good guys stand at zero.

I agree with that, Pirog. We need stabbing dummies or something, for those who only fight when they need to, but are warriors none the less.

Some kind of sparring project would be good, where two or more persons engage in a project that doesn't do anything but raise their combat skills...of skills exist of course :D

I hope something like skills wouldn't be hidden from the players...that would desotry the whole game, because I know that a lot of people have probably started using this OOC information to train their characters just in case.
