Isn't refusing to interact with someone because you don't like the way they write just another form of abusing OOC motivations for your character's actions?

Your character being unwilling to interact with someone with a speech impediment, on the other hand, is not an OOC motivation.

Well, I'm not refusing it, I try to avoid them, it's slightly different.
In this last case, it was not OOC at all, the character was annoying enough without looking at the spelling, and my character would had happily killed the other one if it weren't for the laws and people and all that

I just want to let you know that we are aware of this and have addressed the situation.
It may not be solved right away, but your voices are being heard.

Agreed, but there's obviously a difference between a character with a speech impediment and a player who's a sloppy typer.

Re: Things that annoy or puzzle you about Cantr
I've made lots of dumb mistakes as a starting player, including that my very first char claimed to remember his childhood. I was glad that people didn't ignore me and instead guided me IC or OOC. It's not that hard, really. When someone writes for example 'btw' you can always rolepley 'Btw. *tries to mimic the weird sound X made* Are you feeling alright? It sounded as if you have just swallowed your own tongue.' or something like that. People usually do not need much. And if nothing helps you can always talk to them ooc. Once I had a situation when my char asked the other char to talk with him in private, and then we had an ooc conversation, as somehow it felt better than whispering (didn't want anyone to overhear it). Just keep it civil and polite. This game really has a strong code and after a few months of playing is easy to forget how unnatural some things are.

If someone was using chatspeak or shorthand around me, I would whisper OOCly to them and correct them immediately, not ignore them and thumb my nose or, god forbid, walk away. But that's just me. I understand that, technically, using OOC in this manner is wrong... But fuck it.

I would probably guide the person too. I think that's lesser bad to use OOC like that than not to help and probably have that person quit all together. I'm sure PD understands if you guide new player.. If not then that's just silly

Some of my favourite RPers don't have the best grammar, and I love them all the same. Their RP is just as rich as some. But if you're dealing with a child or teenager, it's more than just asking them to "start spelling properly". Part of the teenage instant-messaging culture is to use silly abbreviations and that can be a hard habit to kick.
Just be proud that we're giving them a fantastic opportunity to learn about correct spelling, grammar and generally the joys of roleplay.

Something that puzzles me more than annoys, but...
Everybody hates newspawn thieves, sure. And trust me, it isn't like that's my favorite way to play. But... if the floor of an unlocked building is literally full of keys to half the harbor's ships, you're gonna get robbed.

There's something special about planning a robbery rather than just "I spawned, now I'm automatically a thief". But yeah, I agree.
I'd be curious what percentage of players started out as newspawn thieves. And what the average age a newspawn thief lives to, compared to normal people.

Although I wouldn't expect the average age for newspawn theifs to be very long, compared to the total average it might not be bad, because the fact that they're a newspawn thief means they at least woke up and did something. That is, unless they're just a new player taking things and leaving without realizing that it's a problem, and then leaving the game.

The town laws are very simple and concise...yet they do it anyway? I sometimes want to return to the old days of..."You, you're going to jail. We'll see you in oh...say..never?"

Re: Things that annoy or puzzle you about Cantr
I'm the opposite. I kinda want to see actual laws and sentencing in the game that isn't just "Oh...So, how about you die now?" OR "So, how about I put you in this locked room until you die?"
