Yea from first hand experience Tea is a royal freaking pain in the ass and not worth it at all. Unless you REALLY have a bone to pick and a plan. And it was only used in the way it was used that one and only time. Hardly a reason to take it away. We now have better shields and healing food. Tea added Balance nothing more.

But problem here is that people play for different things and even if death is possible most try avoid getting killed. Some want conflict sure but some don't. Believe it or not but some just play to work things quietly. And they have right to do so. You can't force certain playstyles to people. For example you can't force someone to play a slave if he/she doesn't want to play it. And that's probably more visible with less people that they all have different playstyles and different reasons and it gets harder to find people with common ground.

Maybe current players just don't find conflict as fun? I admit it personally gets kinda boring if all you see is just conflict or drama. And about newspawns.. I personally think it's easier to get things nowdays than when I spawned my first char. So things are better for new players.

What's souring my game experience and thwarting my occasional attempts to get into the game again, is that there seem to be very few functional game elements left that make this game more than a fancy chat room.

Combat has always had many shortcomings, which make it not exactly a very rewarding experience, especially for the defender; the building and crafting aspects of the game are more or less rendered pointless by the ever increasing overabundance of goods and exploring has been made obsolete simply because there's hardly anything left to explore. What remains is the roleplaying, which I find very hard to find enjoyable on its own, without the occasional nudge from the game mechanics to give me ideas or the chance to bridge quiet times with some other activity. This, and the Cantr nostalgia of course, which unfortunately doesn't help very much in retaining new players.

The shrinking playerbase therefore doesn't surprise me very much and I doubt that a promotion campaign will do much good on its own. Cantr always has been a niche game, but unfortunately it has become more niche than ever.

Well thats the problem. To many players want peace an role play. Not action. Not change. So why should those players be catered to more then others? I for one like Chaos. I like a challenge. I like to plan and see that plan become reality. Do not give up on this game because it is quiet.Cantr is the only game I have ever played that the world really is what you make it. Be the change you want to see! Make 15 characters! Doesnt mean you need to play them all day everyday. But this game is slow paced. Some of my characters have interesting lives. Some do not. But it balances. it always does.

That and there is a ton to explore now. More now then ever. Towns to be re settled. Empires to be rebuilt. Lands to be explored that have never seen a single person. Just a little bit of effort and we can all turn this game around together. We just got to try eh. lol be the change you want to see in the world.

Change doesn't need to mean chaos. If this game gets into killing game and plain chaos and nothing else, I'm out. If I want to kill people I go play COD and kill noobs online.

I have 15 chars and I play actively, maybe one of the most awake person on those towns I am. But perhaps I play too much considering there's not much happening. Building empire is my one dream but you can't do such things alone and frankly others don't like the idea either so it's kinda forgotten. I'm happy how things are expect for lack of players and quietness. I like the RP element and I play for that. And others for something else.

Yougo, you're still missing the point here. It doesn't matter if the tea was hard or easy to make, or if you were giving warnings. Where is the balance in 8 (or was it 6?) people being able to slaughter 25 people during one night? It was extremely unbalanced on the defenders side then. You still can attack towns and kill people, you just have to be ready to face the consequences then, like whitnesses remaining alive and messaging people on the radio and in turn your char becoming wanted. Is it that you simply do not have the balls for that? :P

I understand where you are coming from and I certainly do not like the over-emphasis of role-play over politics / wars / economics, which I find far more interesting, but I do think, as others have said, that it is partly the game you make of it - i.e. if more characters would be competitive or ambitious, it would become a more politically interesting game - and also that higher population density would generate more of these dynamics.

I am also struck by the fact that, or so people tell me, the Polish zone is much closer to this kind of gameplay than the English zone. So while I do not really disagree that some of this is built-in to the current state of the game and its design (albeit not on purpose), I do not agree that it is inevitable.

And I simply refuse to simply give up hope that things can be improved ;-) or that players cannot be recruited or retained. There are too many people who enjoy Cantr too actively for such a long time. And, so many volunteers have put in so much effort to make this game work, that I also feel I owe it to them to continue to believe in it and stimulate it.

Just giving up on the promotion campaign up front means it's a self-fulfilling prophecy of failure.

Why does it worry me that there is two persons returning to the game at the same time and both wants to kill?

Tea balanced the game. When everyone is well armed and everyone has strong shields and crowbars how else are you suppose to win as the attacker? The game is built to not be killed in combat. You got to give attackers a fighting chance. If not the only people who can really do it are pirates. But then by the time you get the keys and get back to rob the town new locks are made and the population is prepared for you.

Our point is being made by your own words. We want a at least a chance. Its a small chance at that. Seatown was lazy and arrogant. Lesson learned. taking Tea away was admin abuse nothing more.

Please do not put words in my mouth. Chaos is not death. I played from 06 "I think" it was day 1981. To 2012. I killed 22 people. $ in cold blood. # in wars. One for revenge. the rest being thieves and won rather well Role played "on both players part "would be Rapist.

I just ask for slight balance and a CHANCE to be able to kill someone. WIthout tea you realy have no chance and I think that is unfair. it was added it should have stayed thats all I am saying. I came back because I missed this game. I even got a new player for us today. We all need to work as a team to get more players. We can do this...If we do not then we lose all we made. Look at cantr. We made it. everything! Why not try?

I'm getting worried a bit too. Perhaps we don't agree or want to play same style as they do?

Also as side note. I find politics, wars and economics not my thing and I like rp part more than those. I play Cantr for RP and rest are a bit meh to me. You get to hear them enough on news anyway. So they are nice but don't suite all. Beside.. if I want war based game I play something like hearts of iron. That's damn good strategy game for those plus you get to destroy things :P

I don't get your point? What advantage you need when already you have all?

PS. I see tea on wiki so it's there..? And I have used some tea recently. Also so we try but we obviously want different things from game. You want chaos and I want peace. How you get these two?

Sorry I mean tea being back to what Tea was. Not what tea is today. And some of the best roleplay I saw involved war and conflic but it is hardly a goal of mine. My characters never go out of there way to cause such things. Or want such things. But I do not change my characters "natural" emotions to keep the world at peace. I have always been a bit of a x factor with some of my past characters. I think it is a good thing. To shake things up it to wake people up. Even if it just screaming and flailing about as a utter madman character who spent to many years alone in the mountains.

On a side note Chaos I find is good. It makes people want peace. They fear chaos so they strive for peace. They are forced to work at what they want as I am forced to work for what I want. Though I do think Chaos was to strong a word to use on my part. I want people to care. and under threat people care right. I know sometimes it hurts. I loved the little forest town i was in when the blackrocks showed up and slaughtered us all. So I utterly understand how some of you feel I really do.

In summery what I want is a more well rounded world is all. A challenge!

The challenge needs to last more than a minute. Permadeath leaves a vacuum. We can have different kinds of conflict that make the game more interesting for more people for a longer time. You can wake people up by making them scared or angry or annoyed, but when you kill, all that goes away.
