Newspawn Thievery
I have done it a few times, but only in small towns.

Re: Newspawn Thievery
I've never been a newspawn thief, but I have had a character accused of being one. Walked into a public resource building, picked up some (free) bone tools, and then was brutally murdered by the townsfolk.

I only did the newspawn stealing when there was like 5 people and 20 vehicles....Which makes it better I hope.

Re: Newspawn Thievery
I used to make them, back when a little iron was a thing it made sense to risk your life over, and it was always a way to create some conflict or tension for your character right off the bat.
Funnily, now that the culture of most places has changed so that no one sane would commit murder over trivial crap, or even bother to pursue, I almost never see them any more. But I see plenty of towns with enough stuff freely available in the bins that would have been a motherlode back in the day, so maybe that has something to do with it. Thieves don't need to steal the small stuff, and it seems like they only take risks like that for nice ships now. Though of course that doesn't explain why there are less overtly suicidal newspawns.
Then again, a newspawn stabs or slaps someone and runs down the road, and who's going to kill them over it? A character would have to be some kind of psychopath who had absolutely nothing to do with their time. Going out on the road and silently stabbing yourself seems to be the preferred, and happily much less disruptive suicide method now.

Yeah, I wonder if the world will get so hectic with continents full of thousands of free stuff and hundreds of new spawn bodies that Jos will just say 'F' it a restart the server...

lol, Jos doesn't care about this game anymore. He's had nothing to do with development for years now.

Nope.
It's still his game but he doesn't have the time to be involved anymore. So he's not going to be jumping in to fix the economy or summon a Kraken to sink Fu into the sea or anything if that's what you were hoping for.

Poll needs another option.
Been accused of being a newspawn thief.
Like troll, gets thrown around oh so easily, and has pretty much become meaningless.

Re: Newspawn Thievery
If you're in your twenties, and have anything more valuable then an iron shield, any visitor, traveller or leader can accuse you of being a thief, or having not earnt the items, or somesuch. And then use that same accusation, to have the character thrown in jail or forced to drop everything, or chased out of town and hunted down. Seen it happen quite a bit. Even without anything being missing or gone.
Beware the twenty year old! Twenty year olds, beware being visibly wealthy.

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=27079 - a good thread to read up on the subject.
I think iavatus is referring to the way some characters will label anyone in their 20s as a 'newspawn', which means they can handwave away any legitimate RP, or simply make an accusation as an excuse to attack someone without too many people batting an eye.
Lyra Halifax, for instance, was just a newspawn thief by that criteria.![]()
Ageism isn't as bad as it used to be but definitely still exists, and it's one of the more interesting aspects of Cantr culture and one of the few that developed naturally.

Whoops, nevermind then. Oh well, still a good excuse to link to one of the more interesting discussions we've had here in a long time.
