Let's see:

3. I keep this character because she's generally the most fun to emote. Also she's the oldest surviving member of her group (apart from the leader herself) and I feel obligated to keep that memory alive.

4. I'm not sure why I keep this character. I think I just don't want to lose any more which is why I keep picking up food.

6. This has always been one of my favorites to play, even now when he's in a town of only himself and one other person. When they're both awake at the same time (which is not very often anymore, mostly my fault), the roleplay can be pretty golden.

9. My only Spanish character. That's pretty much why I keep her alive even though I don't really play her anymore.

10. I really don't know why I keep this character around either. I literally have this character titled "[name] the active sleeper"

14. This character is insane. In a good way. Similar situation as 6 except interaction is even more rare and there are 3 people in the town. Also they get more visitors.

I've considered spawning non-English characters to practice what I've learned on DuoLingo with other languages, particularly Esperanto.
I considered French, but I never got to future- and past-tense verbs.
And don't even talk to me about German.
I don't know anything about those language communities in the game other than there aren't a lot of people.

It's time for a reset?
Cantr II is a social simulator. What is not working is due a problem in the society.

I don't think reset would help at all, we would be still spread thin and I don't think we would have sudden co-operation thingie that would be needed.

I was talking to another player yesterday about this thread, and he jokingly suggested an apocalyptic event, like a meteor completely wiping out Treefeather. I thought it would be interesting! :D

And the resulting tsunami would sink half Fu (Laika)...

Why does Treefeather catch so much flak? For all the faults its still the most active English island from my experience. There's a lot of cool things going on there that make the game better for everyone. Even with all the drama.

Funny how it used to be Cantr  Maybe it's just matter of size and location? Or then almost all have seen it already

I really didn't mean Treefeather in particular, it was just the first one I thought of. But just imagine if there was some in-game event that said "A METEOR IS COMING. It looks like you only have 30 days to evacuate!"

Oh I know Undine :D I wasn't implying you were picking on it, its just in general people seem to act like Treefeather is bad. I'm genuinely curious why.

I think I'm probably one of the loudest Treefeather detractors. In my case it's mainly overexposure, and recently that's been less of a problem and it's more that it's just a running joke. Towards the end of my first 'session' all of my characters on Treefeather were spiralling into depression or being forced by the geography and the nature of their spawntowns into impossible situations and it soured the place for me a bit. Now I only have one character there and it's a bit of fun to have my old frenemy around.

I'd say nuke cantr rather than treefeather. TF has some cool stuff going on, stuff built on people being there for a while. It sucks to have a bunch of chars there, true, but there's things very close to civilization there.

Fu is fine. Forcing people onto a smaller map just because you want someone to talk to is selfish.
