The half weapon, half building - Trebuchet and the Ballista!

Postby Appleide » Fri Oct 15, 2004 6:27 am

Before you think of anything read the following:

Ballista
Counts as a building. 10kg wood to build
Does 80 damage each attack. But requires "reloading" It must be loaded before firing. The loading process takes 1/4 day, and requires a stone hammer and 500 g wood. You must be inside the building to fire the ballista. You could fire at anyone outdoors, or anyone inside ships docked to either harbour or the town. (if you could normally attack them with other weapons like crossbow, fist and sabres)

Trebuchet
Counts as a building. 10kg wood to build
Does splash damage each attack. But requires "reloading" It must be loaded before firing. The loading process takes 1/4 day, and requires a stone hammer and 1k g stone. You must be inside the building to fire the ballista. You could fire at anyone inside ships docked to either harbour or the town or ships that could see the harbour(if there is no harbour pretend there is). If fired at moving boat, 50% to miss the boat completely, other wise, everyone on boat has 50% chance of losing 30% life, and 5% of losing an additional 40 (hit directly).

If fired onto a still boat, hits the boat automatically, and everyone inside have 50% chance of losing 40% life, 5% losing an additional 50.

What do you think? Might be hard to program though

Before huge missile war machines are introduced I would like to see the basic combat system altered so that the current missile weapons work differently...

Yeah, missile weapons need to be made to function as ranged weapons and use ammunition before bigger versions are made.

Make bows require arrows, I think that would be the solution

Or may be, make people need to load an arrow (where everyone could see) just before shooting. but that would be instantaneous

Why does everyone suggest weapons? Couldn't we just have peace. :(

There will never be peace as long as humans exist.

hmmm, before we get into weapons of mass destruction we should work on structures of mass protection lol. maybe if we have an option to "augment" existing buildings so as to fortify them against such weapons, prehaps if we can make iron barriers on walls of buildings to withstand such an assault or bring in full battle garb, breatplate, grieves, gauntlets, the whole shabang, ships should have a capacity for cannons and coties by lakes and seas should have the ability to build a coastal fortress. then we could freely justify and balance having ballistas and trebuchets

But there's no point in a fortress so long as the only way into a building is through the front door. You need the ability to wreak havok before the ability to resist it makes any sense.
